Hi all

How strict are Disney about carding for alcohol?

I am 21, DH is 26, SIL is 29 (but quite young looking) and her DP is 36 (also quite young looking). My brother is 18 but still wants to go to PI.

My question is, should we all be taking our passports with us to the Food and Wine Festival? How about at DTD/PI, and in restaurants?

I remember last time we went my DH getting asked his age in PI despite having a wristband as they didn't believe he could possibly be over 21 :lmao: just wondering if the older members of our group will need ID (and my brother, for going to PI?)

Thanks pixiedust:

I think it's best to be safe and bring your passports or some form of official identification that states your age. Policy here is to ask for identification of someone looks younger than 30. Have fun :goodvibes

DH and I are well past 21 and are still periodically asked to show ID. And, when DH went up to a booth in Epcot World Showcase to purchase a glass of wine for each of us, I had to be visible to the CM or he/she would only sell ONE glass of wine to DH (this happened almost every time on our recent trips). So, I think they do take alcohol sales seriously and having some form of ID on each person at all times is a good idea.

The law in most American states is that you must be carded if you look under 25 (this is to provide a safety margin over 21).

But many bars and clubs, including PI, card everybody for safety.

You will definitely need your ID to get your wristbands - no ifs, ands, or buts.

I would bring a picture ID. I wouldn't bring my passport if I didn't have to. It is bulky, and I would totally freak out if something happened to it. JMHO!

ID is strictly required. There are massive fines for allowing underaged drinking and I think most places in the US (including Disney) won't take a chance if they think a person is under 25. I've been carded and I can hardly remember what 25 looked like any more!

I'm 27 but I look 17 - I ALWAYS get carded. Disney will card you if you LOOK under 30 - I have always been carded at PI

You WILL need to provided ID if you plan on purchasing and/or consuming alcoholic beverages.

Maybe you should carry your ID around your neck in case you plan on getting hammered :p. Then you don't need to fish through your wallet every time you want to get a glass of wine. Are you going for the Food & Wine Festival? I want to do that next year.

I turn 21 in January and look about 15, so that's going to be fun. I think I may bring my license and my passport to avoid any arguments (I have a very short temper and don't like people questioning my age after they've seen my ID).

Hi, PLEASE keep in mind that a CM can loose their job if they DO NOT card or if they serve more than one drink to a single person. :) Joan

I would bring ID with you. We were at WDW in August of this year and my 22 year old daughter (who looks like she is 15-16) was carded every time she ordered a drink.

I am 34 and still get carded at the world. I would definitely bring the ID. Make sure you bring acceptable ID I know college ID is not a formal Sate Issued ID. So make sure it is official. Have fun.

Bring your ID - but I'd be leary of bringing my passport - what if it was lost? Hmm, I don't know if a copy of your passport would work, though. Perhaps you can carry your driver's license and a copy of your passport?

I'm probably overthinking this, but better safe than sorry . . . :thumbsup2 !

Last time I went someone thought I was 15 too :lmao:

Unfortunately my passport is the only photo ID I have... I don't have a driving license (do they accept UK driving licenses? Other people we're with have them!)

So I guess I will definitely carry ID on me if I want to drink. Ditto with everyone else :teeth: Thanks for telling me.

Maelstrom - we're not there specifically for the festival but it's a nice addition to the trip. Mainly we go at that time of year for good weather and low crowds!! :goodvibes

WOW - sorry I missed that the first time around!!! Getting asked at 34?! Actually, you should take that as a compliment! :rotfl:

We will definitely be carrying our ID with us - it's so different here in the UK, you can drink legally at home from age 5 (as long as it's just a taste!) so nobody here really bothers about asking anyone for ID. It sure is different in the USA!!

Bring your ID. In the US, photo ID is always carried at all times, whether you are planning to purchase alcohol or not.

I'm sure that a UK Driving Licence would be sufficient ID, as long as it has your photo on it.

But since you don't have one, is there a government isued ID available in teh UK? All US states have a non-drivers ID that they issue to people who don't want to get a driving license; they are almost identical to driving licenses but are usually a different color or different in some other way to differentiate them from licenses.

I agree with the others who have said that your passport is a little too important, and bulky, to risk losing or spilling a drink on at PI.

From our experience on our last trip 9/9 - 9/15 I was generally always with my boyfriend when he bought drinks (he bought more than I did), I was never carded for being with him. Most of the time we were carded (I think we were not carded like 2 or 3 times). I was always carded when I got a drink.

No government issued ID here yet - that's a bit of a hot potato around here...

There are some reputable schemes going, but TBH most of those aren't even accepted as UK ID, so I highly doubt it would be abroad!

Passports it is... we have photocopies, so hopefully a call to the british embassy would help us out if we did lose it!!

 WAAAA -- SOB -- NOBODY CARDS ME ANYMORE.

WHEN DID I GET OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :teeth:

Just had to express my deep sadness over the above. I stopped getting carded around the time people stopped calling me miss and started calling me "ma'am"!! Which as been quite a while!

Anyway, I carry ID just in case :rotfl: Someone might get a REALLY BIG TIP from me ... someday ... should they say they need to look at my ID!
