Albany NY

we're thinking of adding Albany for an overnight stop we're doing in a few weeks... the museum looks great. Except for the State Capital, I don't see much else to do in March.

I've never been to Albany... what's it like?

oh, I know. I live in NY. We're going on a homeschooling trip to Howe Caverns on a Friday, and my dh would like to make a weekend of it, but there's not much around there. So Albany looks like less than an hour away, so I thought drive over after Howe Caverns, have a nice dinner, stay over, then do the museum on Saturday, nice dinner again, come home Sunday. I know someone who lives an hour from Albany and goes shopping there as a day trip and really enjoys it. I'm going to ask them too what they think (if it's even worth going there). I've read rave reviews about the museum.

We've passed Albany many times going up to Lake George, but we've never been there, and thought it would be a good educational trip. But yea, COLD!

I grew up there so I may take all Albany has to offer for granted but I wouldn't make the hour drive (in this weather) just to visit the museum and the Capitol building. Its nice when the weather is warmer and the tulips are in bloom, and you can walk around, but its cold, windy, dreary and on a Friday afternoon when State workers are getting out of work too busy.

My friend's boyfriend has family that lives in Albany, and she says it's really not that nice and there is nothing to do. I'm sure there are nicer places to stay along the Hudson.

lol i'm glad i don't have to be the first one to say that albany's really not that great. if you do end up there, get breakfast or lunch at grandma's pie shoppe and restaurant. i was there 2 weekends ago because dbf and i follow our school's hockey team around and i had a swiss chocolate almond pie that was to die for
