Albany NY to HH, suggestions please

Hi,
Thinking of going home to HHI next summer. Undecided on driving or flying ... I expect the ride to be about 16 hours ... Traveling with DH and 2 DS (14 and 4) ... Does anyone have any tips --- such as places to stay overnight to breakdown the ride, or should we just FLY!

We are going to HHI in a week, we were going to try and drive but Southwest came out with great rates. We were able to get tickets for round trip $135 per person to Jacksonville. We are going to rent a van in Jacksonville and drive 179 miles to HHI saving us over 700 miles each way. The catch with Southwest was you had to fly to Florida so Jacksonville was the farthest north we could land. This is our first trip to HHI, we will post our trip report if you are interested. We'll be there one month from now!!!! DH, DD (3 yrs.) and DS (8 mos.) are driving. We're still debating whether we should just drive straight through or stop over. Right now, we're leaning toward leaving at night so that the kids are asleep for alot of the ride, and driving straight through. We'll let you know how it goes when we get back.

16 hrs is a pretty realistic estimate from Albany. We drive down from NJ all the time. Last time , we left the day before check in and stayed overnight in Santee,SC, where there are several name brand motels and good restaurants. After a nice breakfast, we had a two hour or less drive. We then checked in and had a full day at the resort.

If I were you I would come south into NJ on the thruway or 87 to the garden state parkway south, then to exit 129, the NJ Turnpike south, it is then a straight shot on I-95 to the HH exit!

Great suggestions. Never considered flying to Jacksonville. DH would prefer Florida, though it will be HOT! Can fly Southwest direct to Orlando, but now I have to wait til the 7 month window to book. I love planning our trips! Would like to stay at BCV, hoping it's not booked.

just returned from hh last night. dw and ds6 ,dd1 1/2,and nephew age 8. we drove down and stayed about 200 miles from hh. yesterday we left hh at 6:00am and pulled into our driveway at 9:30pm. the trip was great. our home resort is bw and bc but we love going to hh. much more relaxing!! this was the first time we drove straight through, it was a nice ride. thanks to the new mini van with the tv/vcr!!
