Anything special on the Alaska cruises over 4th of July? Please share what you have experienced.

Thanks!

Thoughts...
  • in 2017.... July 4th is a Tuesday
  • July 1st is a Saturday.
  • If you arrive before Saturday evening in Vancouver on July 1st..... you can watch the fireworks show just West of the cruise terminal.

Thanks for your reply but I have no idea what you are trying to share. What happens on July 1st?

Thank you so much for explaining this a bit more!

When you cross the border.... the National holiday and fireworks is celebrated 3 days earlier. Kinda like a time zone change.

Thanksgiving is recognized one month earlier.

BTW.... if you are on the July 3, 2017 Alaska trip.... book your hotels early. That is a long weekend and hotels will be high demand.

Thank you so much! I appreciate the info and the hotel tip.

Curious if anything actually happens on the Wonder? Anything patriotic? Anyone know?

Reports have been that there is little fanfare for the 4th. There definitely won't be fireworks. The cruise that includes the it will be cruising Tracey/Endicott Arm on that day. We are booked on that cruise but I'm not expecting anything big.

As pp mentioned, sort of, Canada Day is July 1. That is celebrated similarly to our Independence Day and there is a big fireworks display. If you're planning on spending the second exploring Vancouver, that could be a fun thing to do the evening you arrive. Just know that hotels will probably sell out fast.

I read someone's trip report from this past 4th of July. It was embarkation day for them. Mickey and the gang were in their patriotic clothes at the sailaway party, and I believe they also did meet in greets that day in those outfits. The MDR had a 4th of July menu as well as the rotational menu--so you could mix and match from both menus. The personal navigator also shows 4th of July crafts and Trivia (2 different events) at 7:30PM. Look for personal navigators at www.disneycruiselineblog.com

That would be a fun surprise! I didn't see that report. Do you remember who wrote it?

Post 102 and post 144 have the personal navigator and 4th of july menu listed. 144 also shows Goofy in his Minuteman uniform.

I think I also saw videos of the sail away online somewhere...maybe twitter/instagram that showed them in their outfits at sailaway. I did so much research before our August 8th sailing that I can't remember 'where' I saw everything, lol.

4th of July fireworks aren't that impressive up here anyway. It is a bright puff of smoke in a sunny (or cloudy but still daylight) sky. That is typically watching them at midnight.

On the Alaska cruise?

In 2014, July 4 was in Juneau. There were some decorations set up, and there was a short show in the lobby with patriotic songs. Not much, but there was an observance.

They also had some 4th of July themed backdrops set up for portraits (via Shutters) that night.

And since Tuesday is a sea day, there might be a bit more going on then if July 4 lands on a port day.

So, there will probably be something, and you could be in Vancouver for Canada Day, but I don't know that I would plan a trip specifically for either. Just consider them as bonuses if you happen to go on the July 3 cruise.

I was on the July 4, 2016 Alaskan cruise. Mickey and friends were dressed up for the holiday in colonial red, white & blue...very cute. We were not offered special patriotic menus in our mdr as was mentioned, could have been a certain one. Some pictures from that day had red, white, & blue border with the date imprinted. That's about all that we encountered.

The trip report I was reading was from this year, they were in Parrot Cay that night and got both the MDR menu and an 'American' menu for the 4th of July. How odd that they didn't have it in all the dining rooms! Thanks for telling us what you saw first hand!
