Oh, yeah, I also forgot to tell you about the RIDICULOUS merchandise debacle!!! Sold out of Inaugural merchandise in seconds. Vultures. Swarming. It wasn't important to me so...no worries. But I couldn't get in the stores until the 3rd day!!! CA-RAZY!! I did buy a super awesome blue DCL jacket. Dark blue. It is in ALOT of the pictures.

In Diversions. Right after I won BINGO!! DH and I were sitting in the bar area facing the stage. She walked in the main door and I said to my husband "wow, she looks like that actress from Lost" and he says "yeah, wow, she really does" and then at the same time we say...wait for it...."It IS that actress from Lost!!" And she comes and sits right in front of us and sweetly says "do you mind if we sit here?" SERIOUSLY???

Anyway, after bingo, she says something to the effect of way to go and we ask for a pic. She humbly obliges and no one else ever approached her. She said people were very respectful on the ship.

Okay, excursion time!!

In Skagway, we did the Best of Skagway. We met at 8:45am and left around 9am. There were 3 bus loads of us. I had Liz as a tour guide (not DCL) and she was great. We took the bus for a little over an hour. She did history of Skagway, other odd information about Alaska, etc. When we got to the top of the mountain, we boarded the train. About a 90 minute narrated train ride down. You can stand outside between the cars for most of the trip. VERY interesting...very cool...beautiful. They give out free bottled water so don't bring your own. There are bathrooms on the bus and the train. The train one was very clean. This was the coldest day we had. It was in the low 40's and I was wishing I had my park for the Liarsville portion which was next. After the train, we got back on the bus for a 5 minute trip to Liarsville. As soon as we arrived, we ate lunch. A full buffet with grilled salmon as the main course. There is chicken too if you don't want salmon...or if you want both! The food was good but nothing great. You can buy beer and wine there but very watered down lemonade and coffee comes with your meal. We wandered around Liarsville which is about a 2 minute tour, visited the gift shop (this is a must do everywhere we go!!) and saw a 15 minute skit. After the skit, we stood around the fire for awhile to try to get warm. This was the only day that the weather was uncomfortable...and only here in Liarsville. Once I got back into town, it warmed up a bit. We then panned for gold. So not into this. I did not care about taking a few flecks of gold back home. Anyway, on to Red Onion Saloon. When we arrived, we were given a choice of beer or wine (on the house!) and then were given a tour of the brothel. Very interesting, great tour guide. And then from there, you could take the bus back to the ship or stay in town...it is literally a 5 minute walk to the pier. You can see in from all over town. We stayed in town. We shopped a bit and stopped at a local pub and had drinks. We met up with the guy that was hypnotised and ran into some other passengers and crew that we knew. That was fun. We then headed to the local Skagway Fish Co. AWESOME fried halibut and shrimp. Excellent breading...and the fish...melt in your mouth. And if you like tartar sauce, mmmm, some of the best ever.

Overall, I would recommend the train FOR SURE. It was a highlight of our trip. But I could skip Liarsville and Red Onion (do that on your own!).

And we got back on the ship close to 7pm.

Fantastic! We are signed up for this excursion for our August cruise. Weather hopefully will be warmer then. The fish sounds fantastic. We will have to look that place up when we are there! :)

Ask your tour guide about it...Jed from the train told us about it actually. All the locals know the place...and the tourists!! When you get off the ship, look straight across the harbor. You will see 2 restaurants, a blue bldg and a red bldg...it is the red one!!

Looks like you had a great time. Thanks for sharing :goodvibes

Excursion #2...Juneau.

We took the shuttle into town first thing in the morning. We took the Mt Roberts Tramway up to the top of Mt Roberts. It is a pretty cool but short ride. You can ride up and down as many times as you want in one day for one ticket price. Once you get to the top there is a lookout, a gift shop, a nature center and theatre. There are 2 informative videos/films to watch. We got to see an eagle in captivity...she was injured and is blind in 1 eye so she will live that way forever. It was pretty cool though. After we rode down, we explored the shops of Juneau...bought some cool Del Sol and Cariloha t-shirts and some other souvies...

We headed back to the ship to meet our excursion...but not before we stopped at Taku and bought some smoked salmon. We had a light lunch and headed out to meet the Helicopter Glacial Walk excursion. We met at 1pm and left promptly.

We rode a bus approximately 15 minutes to the airport where we met our helicopter. We watched a safety video and then got ready. Ice boots and life vests (they inflated...you can see the yellow packs we had to wear in the pics). We headed out for the 20 minute helicopter ride completely narrated by our pilot. We got to wear the head phones and talk in our little microphones. If you have never been on a helicopter, this is the one weirdo thing you look forward to doing. We were sat down right on the glacier. Be sure to check out my pics for this. We got to drink the glacier water and walk around the glacier hearing its history and scientific junk about glaciers. The big ole cracks in the ice? Those go down hundreds of feet so it was pretty crazy they let us get so close.

Anyway, totally worth it coolio excursion. I wish I would have done a more extensive glacial expedition but this was super fun anyway.

We headed back to the ship after a short helicopter ride back.

I was pretty freaked about the idea of riding in a helicopter but it was awesome...I was fine once I was on it.

By the way, I did post more pics including Palo food porn.

Love the report AND the pics!
