This is probably not the best forum, but I need to know what other cruise line to use since we need to sail out of Seattle as we'll be visiting folks in that city pre-cruise. We've only sailed Disney and I know I'm going to be constantly rating everything against their impossible standard. So help me out, please.

We have a son who will be 14 when we do Alaska. What is the best cruise line for a teen with two older parents - that comes the closest to Disney's quality. Any advice is well appreciated!

Thanks!

In August we sailed on the Ovation of the Seas out of Seattle. We have sailed RCCL a few times before, but this ship and the itinerary exceeded all our expectations!

I haven't sailed with another cruise line to Alaska, so I can't recommend one. I will say that it's pretty easy to get from Seattle to Vancouver, though, if you wish to sail with Disney. There's a train connecting the two cities (Amtrak Cascades) and the journey is about 4 hours. The train station in Vancouver is right near the subway line that will take you to the cruise terminal.

Whatever you decide to do, have a great trip!

Try the Costco Travel site to research (even if you are not a member.) It has a pretty robust search function and most of the major cruise lines are listed so it's easy to compare.

We had a great 7 day family cruise, 16 in all, on the NCL Encore in June. We are going back this June for a 10 day on the NCL Joy which is her sister ship with just several friends. The only glitch with NCL is they have a private dock in Ketchikan and it is about 20 minutes from town, but they do provide free shuttles. As much as we love DCL (21 cruises, 3 of which were AK) the logistics and costs for Vancouver are too bothersome.

For quality, I personally think it's Celebrity on the Edge out of Seattle. It met or exceeded DCL in quality. The food was a huge improvement in my opinion too. My kids are college age, so I can't speak to the teen experience. I suspect it won't be nearly as good as DCL, but if he likes nature, the naturalist on board was fantastic. But the line tends to attract older passengers. There were teens on board, but not like DCL.

Here is a detailed comparison DCL that I made when it was fresh in my memory: https://www.disboards.com/threads/my-celebrity-comparison-to-dcl-that-nobody-asked-for.3952456/

We’ve done DCL out Vancouver but this coming June’s Alaskan cruise will be on the NCL Joy out of Seattle.

Celebrity Edge is out of Seattle and I LOVED it. It won't have slides and such, but it's a beautiful ship, and I find Celebrity's service much more on par with Disney than Royal Caribbean's.
