We caved in and got the Alaska card with the 20,000 points and $99 companion fare etc.

If anyone else has done this, we are booking six flights. Can you use the points for one flight 1/2 price and the $99 companion fare all for the same booking??

I have always done them separately. One is a revenue booking and one is a reward booking. I don't know how to combine them. I would book the 2 tickets with the companion fare last though. Try to get your $750.00 spend on your card soon so you can get the 5000 bonus (groceries should do it;)). Also go into the my account section on the Alaskaair.com website and sign up to get all their emails. They give miles bonuses just for signing up.

Create Alaskaair accounts for everyone in your party also, even the kids. You never know when those miles will come in handy.

Oh, and another tip: Don't use the miles for a 1/2 price flight. Use them for a one way instead (especially if you are going out of YVR), and book the return separately. At least price it out this way, and it will likely be cheaper. I know it is a hassle, but worth it. Also, don't rush to book the reward ticket. Watch the reward calendar (when entering the dates tick the box that says flexible dates and it brings up the miles needed for various dates). The "prices" of reward seats change often. You may be able to get one way for 12,500.

Good Luck.
