Alamo situation....WWYD?

I booked a 7 passenger mini van back in March for next March 2007. The rates were good (440.00 US for 2 weeks, taxes, fees incl.) so I thought I would book it online. Since then our flights have been booked and we are arriving/leaving a day earlier than the rental is booked for. I've gone online to try to change the dates but the price coming up is $961.00. I just got off the phone with Alamo and they told me it would be $1050.00 if I changed the reserveration, even though it's only by 1 day.

I've checked all other rental companies and the prices are all the same. What would you do? Will the rates ever be that good again, even with discount codes? When will the discount codes be out for next spring? We're renting a villa so we need to rent a van.

I'm new to the car rental situation so any advice would be appreciated.

Check around for 1 day rentals. Inconvenient to have to take car back and exchange it on day 2, but depends on price. Keep checking prices, they change often and you have plenty of time.

I'd also check out the cost to rent 2 standard size cars and see if that is any cheaper.

You still have plenty of time if you aren't going until next March. The closer it gets, the more apt you will be able to find discount codes. Would they let you change where you picked up or dropped off? you could always take ME for the first day and get your car from the CCC or Dolphin.

I would check with Thrifty. There rates are very reasonable right now. When you check the rates make sure to use code WMRT in the promo field. That will save you an additional 10%.

If the rates at Thrifty are cheaper I would cancel Alamo and go with them. Just keep in mind that in order to get to the Thrifty counter and your car you must take a shuttle from the airport. About a 5 minute shuttle ride.
