Has anyone else noticed that Alamo rates can change from hour to hour?
I found discount codes and/or e-coupons for Alamo and tried them several days ago. I got great quotes. I chose not to take the reservations at that time. Today I tried again and the rates were higher. So I did some more research and found some new codes. I tried those and got great quotes. So, I tried to go back and use some other codes which were higher. Finally I decided what code was best for me but when I put in in again, the rates were higher than the first time. I tried the same code several times and got several different codes!!! What to do?

If you can find a rate you can live with, book it! If you hesitate they will be gone. You can always cancel it without any charge (unless you prepay).

I usually have several different reservations before deciding on the one I'm going to keep. I also cancel and rebook mulitple times. It's annoying but it can save you a lot.

For example, I have an SUV booked with Alamo for Pres Week for $157. My friend waited until the last minute and is paying $268 for a full size (that's only because I gave her a rental code to use otherwise her rate was $439!)

2 days after she booked, Alamo, National and Dollar are all saying sold out!

When you get a great rate book it !! What are you waiting for? Auto reservations not like airline tickets, you can usually cancel and book a better rate later with no penalty.

Avis doesn't even need a cc to make the reservations. I usually make a couple of them and go and cancel.

I learned the hard way last year with Alamo that the rates can go all over the place...this year I got a great rate on an SUV with Alamo so I booked it right away (and I've been lucky enough to have it go DOWN two more times since). They don't require a credit card and it's simple to make a reservation and cancel later if necessary.

Live and learn, I guess. Next one gets booked!!!!

Yup. That's what I do. I book early and often. Heck, I even have 2 reservations for New Year's Eve already. I know a good rate when I see one and then I work for a better one. It's a hobby ;).

I have one for MCO and one for TPA. My in-laws are in TPA so we might fly in there instead of MCO.
