Hello,
I have a ressie for an Alamo car. I have it printed out and ready to go with the coupon.
Today we received our Quick Silver club number. I went back to the Alamo website and started a whole new reservation to see if I would get a cheaper rate WITH the QS #.
It turns out that with the same car, same coupon, same Costco # AND with the QS # - The rate is much more expensive!

It was $236 With Taxes without the QS # and WITH the QS # it was $220 Without Taxes!
(meaning, I didn't confirm so I wasn't able to see how much it was with taxes) but if I had confirmed, taxes are about $50, so I'm surmising it would be about $270.

I'm going to check again tomorrow, the next day, etc.
because I know that car rental rates change by the hour, by the day....

Has anyone gotten a More Expensive Rate with Quick Silver?
Thanks!

Maybe I'm not understanding what you are trying to do, but why don't you just call Alamo and have them add your QS number to your reservation? Your rate isn't dependent on being a QS reservation; the rates change all the time and you probably won't get the same rate you had before no matter how many days in a row you try. You can keep checking back for a lower rate, I know that they tend to go down as you approach your rental date (although the rate now when I check is 3 times what I got back in April - I guess I got lucky!)

I added my QS number to my reservation with no problem.

Goofy is right - the rate you got is not tied to the QS number, it's tied to the code and coupon you used, and you are right, those rates go up and down like a yo-yo almost daily.

Call or email Alamo directly and ask to have the QS number added to your existing ressie without changing the rate. Be sure to mention without changing the existing rate. I did this once myself, when I first joined QS, so I know they can do it.

Duh  I didn't even think of calling Alamo and adding the Quick Silver number.....but doesn't that number supposedly get you a better rate?
I'll keep checking and thanks :goodvibes

No, not a better rate, just an easy experience to rent.

No, QS members don't get special rates.

But what you do get from QS is expedited service. When you join, you fill out a master rental agreement - the paperwork needed to rent a car - and that agreement is kept on file by Alamo. Because of this, you don't need to fill it out each time you rent, and all of your options are pre-chosen, so you won't get the hard-sell for additional insurance. Simply go to the garage, stop at the desk, and go get your car.

Thrifty's Blue Chip Club and Dollar's Fastlane Club work the same way.

National's Emerald Club is even better - just walk up to any car on the Emerald Aisle, get in, and drive away. No desk, no lines; all you have to do is show your ID and ressie paper at the exit.

I think that the other major companies like Hertz, Avis, and Enterprise all have similar clubs, but I'm not in any of them.

Blue Chip, Fastlane, and Quick Silver are all free to join. Emerald Club normally has a $50 fee, but it's pretty easy to find offers on teh net that will get the fee waived.

I tried that. It didn't work. The tech in India can't add QS# to an existing reservation for some reason. I tried twice. But I did find that after I used the "Save Time Now!" feature it found my QS# and attached it to the reservation. Probably because it looks up the drivers license number and found my data in the process.

what happens if you try to modify your existing reservation? There used to be a place to put your QS info.

I had to change the time of arrival to my reservation. When I tried doing it by modifying an existing booking, the rate came up almost $100 more. I then called the 800 number and changed it over the phone. The agent who did it said the rate remained the same but it would change to the current rate if you do it on line.

Like the OP, I got my QS # after I had already made my reservation for a previous trip. When I called to add it on, they told me also that they couldn't do it. I guess I don't understand with such technology, minor things seem to present big problems.
