Alamo prepay?

Can someone tell me how the Alamo prepay works? Do you pay at the time of the booking? Are there any fees if you cancel? So far the best rates I can find for right after Thanksgiving is with Alamo prepay and the entertainment coupon. Thanks

I used Alamo pre-pay at the time of booking (about three weeks ahead) on a minivan rental last spring at MCO. The only cost item outside the price I paid was that I had to return the vehicle with the gas tank full. The pre-paid price included all of the concession fees, FL battery tax, etc. I also changed from a large sedan to the minivan without penalty a few weeks before arriving. I did not, however test the cancel policy to answer your refund question.

I used the Alamo prepay for a 5-day stay in September. About one week before we left, I cancelled the Alamo reservation I had and re-booked the prepay to save about $30. When I got there there were no mini-vans in the Alamo aisle so the attendant pointed me over to the National aisle. I also returned the van full of gas. Overall it worked fine and I would not hesitate to do it again if it saved me money. My advice would be to wait and check the rates just before you leave and then do the prepay if it will save you some $$$. I think I do remember the policy stating that there is a charge to cancel.

I have reservations with a $20 coupon. Can I go in closer to my rental date and prepay the reservation and still receive the coupon discount with the extra 15% off?

One big reason I did the prepay and on-line check in was so that I could skip the counter and go right to the cars. I think when you use a coupon at Alamo you must go to the counter. (Not 100% positive on this.) In my case, the % off was more than the coupon so I just went with that.

Julylady - were you actually able to do BOTH prepay and online check-in? The small print states that prepay cannot be used with online check-in. When I called to ask about this, the rep said that I would have to do counter if I prepaid, so I skipped that choice and reserved with online check-in only. Please let me know what you did for your rental - I'd love to skip the line and save even more money!
