We are coming to Orlando for a visit to the WDW and was wanting to know what rental car company we should go with? Now that Alamo is the official rental car for WDW I was just curious to know if they were onsight like National has been at the Orlando International Airport? Does Alamo have any good deals going on? We will be staying from 11/30-12/04. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated!! Thanks, Chip.

Alamo is not onsite..you need to take a shuttle to get there. I believe their site does have some specials pertaining to the switch for them.

We went to Orlando Intrl in August and got a great rate with Dollar and got good service, we rented a van and toured the state of FLA.
If you can I recomend reveiwing the Budget and Family Travel pages, members were very helpful with codes on great deals. Also go to all car rental websites and check on deals plus what airline discount can get you. Also call the Rantal CTRL Res late at night and ask for all discounts available frequently until you leave.
I have to thank "THE GREAT Sgt Disney" where ever you are ! Maybe he can helpout again!

Disnee Dad Says.....................Thirteen days to go and we are still with Dollar. Best rate for on-site rentals, though I admit there are some cheaper off site places. But Disney costs us at least 50 cents for every awake minute, so an extra thirty minutes on each end of the trip is at least $30. Waiting twenty minutes for luggage, just cost you $10, so we do all carry ons.

I just got hertz for 28.00 a day/full sz. car from Priceline. Hertz is off site but hopefully everything will go smoothly. We will be at WDW 14 days during the holiday and i was getting very high rates.

Just once we rented from Alamo. We booked a package with Amex and that's what came with it. Never again! Having to transport the kids and the luggage on the shuttle and then waiting to get the car was just too time consuming. These are the rental car companies located onsite at Orlando Airport:
Avis, Budget, Dollar, National and L&M. I always search for the best price using these agencies and Dollar is consistently the best price.

Wow!!! Thanks for the accolades. I don't often get described as 'great'. LOL! ;):bounce:

Chip64, what kind of car are you looking for? Many times Dollar has some excellent codes that get some pretty good prices. Budget was having a special on Rangers and Compacts for like 19.99 per day, but I don't know if that is in effect when you are going.. You can also look at www.mousesavers.com for some excellent codes in the Ground Transportation section.

My feelings on Alamo are pretty well documented here on the DIS forums.. I will just leave it at that. ;)

I believe with the recent combining of Alamo and National,Alamo will be at the airport.

just cost you $10

I have never ever waited more than 10 minutes for luggage.
I have waited far more than 10 minutes to get off a plane because of people carrying on all their luggage. Guess it is a matter of perspective. Thank goodness for carry on limits.

LOL-I never quite thought about it that way--we are just anxious to get to Disney! But, that is really good-- maybe that's how I can justify the cost of Emerald Aisle to DH.....

Disnee Dad Says.............Dear Gail, from the time the plane lands, it takes 10 min just to get off the plane and another 10 min to get to luggage heap. In my entire life, which is only 25-30 flights, I have never beat my luggage to the pick up point, and that is my life long goal!! Twenty plus years and never did it. So I stick with twenty minutes = $10.

We rented from Hertz in Orlando once before....yes, they were off site, but the shuttle was prompt.....it took us a bit longer than I wanted once we reached the Hertz lot...( I was just a LITTLE impatient ;) ) but the service was fine, and the price was reasonable. Enjoy your trip!

We always rent from Alamo because their rates and service have been great in Orlando. Even when we went to Key West or were meeting a cruise ship in Fort Lauderdale or Miami we flew into Orlando and rented from Alamo. We've rented a convertible, SUV and economy cars. Last time we utilized the internet to give them all our information and decline the insurance. Instead of going through the main line we went to a small office at the side, to a kiosk (like an ATM) to pick up our rental. There was no wait, no pressure to buy their gas or insurance, and our car was right there waiting. Yes, we took a short shuttle ride to Alamo, but that was no big deal to us.

I'm there the same dates.. alamo wanted $350 for a minivan for 11/29-12/8 and National wanted $370 for same period only diff is National is onsite at airport and Alamo is up an exit on busy bee highway i usually have to add half hour min in travel plans .. National is much more convenient if flying in to Orlando airport:Pinkbounc

Second trip-Alamo came with package-not a great car-
hated the shuttle to and from airport (real problem if
you are not aware of it). Friend got back last Saturday-package
as well had Alamo-Their car came with dings in it and the interior was in bad shape-glue releasing on dash etc.

Third trip-National - no muss no fuss no hassle great car
on site at airport.

Fourth trip-we are going with Dollar - full size car total
using code for 10 days $399. Also understand they are onsite at airport.
