Alamo/National Standard Vs FullSize Vehicles

Standard vs. Full Size rental car with Alamo and/or National? In my rental search I’ve noted, with both companies, the quote price is the same for the standard and full size vehicle. Comparing the vehicles on their websites the difference is the full size list cruise control where the standard doesn’t. Question 1, why rent the standard? Question 2, with both companies you pick the car from a designated row, are there separate standard and full size aisles?

I've never seen a standard row at MCO. It used to be standards were 2 doors, full size were 4 doors but the examples they show are both 4 doors.

1) There are situations that make sense to book a standard. When using a one car class upgrade coupon, there is really no way to book a full size and get a savings. If you use a one car class upgrade coupon on a mid size, it gets you in to a standard. From my experience you get to pick from the full size isle when you book a standard class. This makes sense since Malibu's are in the full size isle at MCO and that is what is indicated in the standard size class on the web site. Also since they are priced the same. The same goes for two car class upgrades. Your savings can be significant if you upgrade from a compact to a standard than from a mid size to a full. Since standard and full are the same price, double upgrading from a compact makes more sense.

Thank You for the information. I’m looking at a one class upgrade coupon. Doing the midsize upgrades to the standard. I’ve used Alamo/National at MCO but never recalled seeing a standard aisle. This time I’m renting out of FLL in April. I’m guessing FLL doesn’t have a standard aisle either. So I’ll probably go directly to the Full Size aisle and see what happens when I go to checkout at the booth. Thanks again.

We will be doing the same thing in May at FFL, we have a two car class upgrade coupon and upgraded a compact to standard.
