Booked a car through VA and got the usual message about taking advantage of on .line checkin to "avoid the queues at the rental desk" just "go straight to pick up your car and drive away" etc

Just had a look at the docs printed when I did the online checkin and it says go to the rental building "where you will find the Alamo desk" - which obvisouly defeats teh object of OLCI.

Anyone picked up a car at Miami/Alamo using the VA/VH OLCI who can confirm exactly what happens ?

I.e is it the same as Orlando - just go straight to the car and drived to the barrier or do you have to queus for teh desk first to show them your confirmation

They may be referring to the fact that the car rental set up at Miami Int is in a multi-storey building a little way from the arrivals area. You used to get a free shuttle that took eveybody to the building and then you went to the appropriate desk or straight to the car. Since mid September they now have a monorail that replaces the shuttle buses to the car rental building.

Do VA have a special agreement with Alamo regarding the online check-in? We've got an Alamo booking from Miami next month (booked direct with Alamo, not through VA), so I went to check out the info when I read this thread. Looks like we won't be able to take advantage on the online check-in:

To qualify for Online Check-In, you must:

•Meet minimum rental age requirements.
•Have a valid U.S. or Canadian driver's license.
•Provide a valid major credit card.
•Alamo does not accept debit cards at time of rental. Although a debit card may be accepted online, you will not be able to process your transaction at time of rental.
•Not available for some specialty class vehicles.
•The following credit cards may be used to complete your Online Check-In transaction:U.S. issued credit cards: Mastercard, VISA, American Express, Discover
Canada issued credit cards: American Express, Mastercard, VISA

Thanks for the info, Wayne I think I'll give that link a try with our Alamo reservation number even though we didn't book through Virgin - I assume the worst that can happen is that it won't work and we'll have to go to the Alamo desk, which is what we expected we'd have to do anyway.
