We are renting a vini van from Alamo on our next trip. What type of vans do they have? And are the windows tinted? Wana know if I need to bring my window shades.
Also, is it worth renting their car seats or should I bring my own? Just trying to cut down on the stuff we bring from home.

I haven't rented with Alamo in a decade or so, but use National alot and they are 'sister' companies. I can tell you that Alamo and National both feature GM products so you have a good chance of getting a Chevy Venture or a Pontiac Montana. I do know that National has also had Chevy Astros and Dodge Grand Caravans as well the last time we were there. I have rented mini-vans in Florida for a few years now with a number of companies and have never gotten one without the dark tinted windows. I also have never rented a child seat, we have always brought our own. The rental ones seem costly to me and I have heard reports that they aren't all that clean or new.

Thanks for the reply. Thought that the windows would be tinted with the hot florida sun but just wanted to make sure.

Still not sure about the car seats. I have also heard that it can be expensive and unclean, just trying to cut down on luggage.

Will gladly take extra stuff if it means having a clean seat....and cheaper.

I have seen some of Alamo's car seats. Not all, but some are vinyl and ripped. So gross I can't believe anyone accepts them.

Be sure to check my post "Car rental .... I think I got rooked". I rented from Alamo two weeks ago. The only thing I was unhappy with was the cost and how they 'get you' ... if only I'd known some things ahead of time. Anyway ... we had a Dodge Grand Caravan, which I LOVED :Pinkbounc . The windows were tinted. I am now trying to figure out how we can buy our own van!! ;) We did bring our infant in her own carseat that you carry, but decided to rent a seat for out almost 3 year old. There is a big bin with piles of carseats in plastic bags in the area where you go to pick up your vehicle. You pick one and then install it yourself. The first one we picked didn't install very well, so we went back and picked another one. No one 'mans' this area, so you can pick whatever you want. And believe me I was PICKY about what she would sit in. None of them seemed dirty, but some were well used. There is every kind imaginable ... mostly Evenflo I noticed, but many high back ones. We were happy with the one we did pick. The straps weren't as easily adjustable as our Eddie Bauer one we have, but that was ok for the week. If I did it again, I just may bring my own, but it really wasn't worth the aggravation of lugging it along with two strollers, etc. Everyone has their own opinion on this and believe me I was worried after reading about these horrible seats, but they weren't bad when we were there.
Good luck!

I may be venting but on my last two trips to Disney I used Alamo due to its low rates and both times I walked away with a bad taste in my mouth. I think the guy at the counter lied about the insurance policy and my coverage that without thinking properly I bought the insurance to be safe and I really didn't need it. Since then I've seen many postings on this board about similar instances. Also I feel their overall service is poor. A bunch of employees just stand around joking with eachother instead of helping people. I did everything I could to avoid Alamo's rate on this trip and I succeeded through Priceline, where I got a rate of $27.00 a day through Hertz (450.00) for 13 days for an SUV. Which was $60.00 better than Alamo. Give Priceline a chance just bid low I started at $22.00 and worked my way up. Also Priceline only deals with the best companys.

Priceline uses Alamo as one of their vendors.

I do hear what you are saying about Alamo though. The last time I used them, which granted was many years back, I had such a bad experience I have hesitated to use them again. I figured that when they merged operations with National I would consider them again, but I am still a little 'gun-shy.'
