I have a car reserved from Alamo for our December trip. When I made the reservation, I made the pick up time for 1:30pm. Now our flight doesn't arrive until 4pm. Will I have a problem with the rental? Will they hold the reservation? I did try to modify the pick up time on my reservation, but it increases the cost by over $500.00!!!!

Thanks,
Tammy

They probably will not hold the reservation. If you succeeded in plugging your flight number into the car reservation and your flight although arriving later, is the same flight, there is a good but not guaranteed chance they will hold the reservation.

You can call them on the phone but still, without a written confirmation, having the reservation held is not absolutely positively guaranteed.

It is very common for your reservation to be changed to the current rate if you try to modify the reservation in any way.

Guess you will have to play the shop shop game again for a new car reservation.

I would call them. I know National holds reservations until midnight.

Is it midnight......no matter what your pick up times was supposed to be ?
(ie:if your pickup was for 9am..they;ll hold to midnight ?)

I asked the question once at the counter and that's what they told me. Their computer releases any unclaimed reservations at midnight. I've been either early or late by 2 or 3 hours and it's never been a problem.

Thank you everyone for your help. I will call Alamo to verify their policy. I can't see them cancelling our reservation if we were late by 3 hours. What would they do if our flight was delayed? They don't have my flight number. What if we wanted to stop and eat lunch after our flight or shop and got to the rental counter later than planned?

Keeping my fingers crossed, I looked and can't find a rate anywhere near as good as the one I booked.

Tammy

The hold policy is stated in the rental company's rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures. These can be found on the company's web site, an approximation can be found on Travelocity .com for several popular car rental companies. Two hours is typical. Rental companies are notorious for holding you to their exact rules when things are busy (Daytona week included).

Not sure how good of a rate you got, or what type of car. We booked already, but I was checking last night to see if "anything better" came along. We had reserved a midsize 7 days $126 which I guess is a good deal. They had minivans for about $150 including all tax/fees. Not sure what discount codes it was under, or if it was under hot deals. I usually use a Bjs, walmart, costco discount code.
Good luck

We have a great deal through Alamo in December...but our flights changed and now our arrivial time is a couple of hours later. I too tried to modify online but it was going to cost a lot more. I called and they said they hold reservations until midnight (or was it 24 hours?...hmm..I'm drawing a blank  )... so it's not a problem for my couple of hours difference.

Plus.....we did the online check-in....so we just walk right to the car. No going to the counter. Love that!!

I think you should be ok :wave2: Just keep their MCO location phone number handy and give them a call if you have problems.

Update - I just called Alamo and confirmed - they will hold the reservation for 24 hours with no change in my current rate (thanks Cindybelle).

Cindybelle -

When you have done Alamo's online check-in, have they stuck to their written policy of not being able to utilize online check-in if your ressie includes a coupon?

Alamo told me that since I was using a coupon, I could not go straight to the car. They said I had to go to the counter. I'm going to try to call them again tomorrow to see if I get a different answer.
Alamo also told me that since I was a AAA member, we could add an additional driver for no cost, but when I called AAA they said no, not through Alamo because I didn't book it through AAA???
Maybe with all the people going straight to the cars the lines won't be too long. We usually split up once we arrive at the airport anyway. I wait for the bags while hubby gets in line for the car :earsgirl:

justplaingoofy - I tried to do on-line checkin in August, but wasn't able too because of using the coupon.

Also - check your confirmation - mine lists on a separate line under the coupon "Inclusive Rate Items" - Guaranteed Base Rate - (1) Additional Driver - and Unlimited Miles all included at nost cost. I only used a entertainment book coupon - no AAA.

Tammy

Thank you sooo much for your reply. I went to Alamo's site, and punched in the same info including the coupon, and it did state 1 additional driver is included. So I called Alamo (again) All set!!
I appreciate your response
Thanks again
