Hi

I got a full size car for a week in January 2004 through Alamo for $162.00. This seems like a very good price. I have never used Alamo before, can anyone tell me if it is a good car rental agency or if you have had any problems with them

thanks for your help

carol

p.s. maybe I'm wrong, does anyone know of a better price??

That is not a bad price on a full size. Alamo is fine, it is convienient--right at the airport. At times the lines can be long, but I've rented from them several times. We now have a system of sending DH right to the car pick-up while the kids and I hit the lavatories, and retrieve the luggage. By that time he is usually through the line and we all leave together. Be sure to have any promo. rates/perks details with you when you pick up the car and don't leave the desk without them! A few times we had child's free breakfast included withthe rental and when we picked up the car no one knew what we were tlaking about. Talking witha manager solved the problem. remember, just like National you can combine codes and coupons, so if you have not done that you may find that can bring the rental down further. Do not try to modify your existing reservation, just make a new one and if the numbers come back less, then re-book. After your new rate is confirmed then cancel the original reservation. Check back every now and again as well, I saved about $20 more on what I though was my best deal when I re ran the numbers on line a month or so later.

While they do let you combine codes and coupons on the site, I have heard that there is a problem when you get there to rent if the code and the coupon are not from the same place.

You can modify quite well on their site. I have done it more times than I care to count and now and then it is even less than a new reservation. You can also now, just an FYI, modify on National without the former glitch.

Alamo is really nice now that it is onsite at the airport. You even get to select the car you want from the class of car you have rented.
