Hi All

I have just received my car hire voucher through Holiday Autos. We have a 4dr compact all inclusive package with Alamo, however at the bottom of the voucher it has:

Not incluced in prepaid Rental Charge: deposit, petrol.

Now I understand about the petrol but the deposit had us stumped. So we have just rang holiday autos and they say that it is a $100 per week charged to our cc incase any damage happens to the car, or we fail to return it. Our reply was are we not covered through the insurance that we have already paid? They repllied;"No, if anything happens to the car ie damage they will take that $200 and I can claim it back from holiday autos less the excess when I return".
In all the tiimes we have hired a car in FL we have never heard of this, has anybody else?
I am not very happy at the moment

Hi Michelle,

We're using Alamo so I'm interested too. Our voucher says Rates Excludes : Personal Accident Insurance/Personal Effects Cover, Baby Seats, Incidentals, One way rental charges, additional drivers, fuel.

Just reading in travel brochures, one giving Alamo car hire it says "Security Deposit $100 per week/$25 per day or a major credit card" and this is stated on the basic, fully inclusive and Gold package.

In another brochure featuring Dollar it says "Your major credit card will be debited for any changes at the time of rental. Alternatively, a cash deposit of $100 per week $25 per day, per car can be left as security".

Presumably this has always been the case as they swipe your credit card when you pick the car up.

Hi Michelle

We only used Alamo once and we had to let them swipe our CC for $200 and this was when we went for the Millennium trip.....

Dont ever recall a deposit being taken by Dollar though.

We did find Alamo to be very good though when we picked up and dropped of at Sanford.

HTH

Thanks Sue & Janice,

That is why I rang them Janice as we have never left a cc when hiring with Dollar.
Oh well looks like we'll just have to do it this way.
