Ala Carte Counter Service question

I came across this statement on the Mousesavers website and I was wondering if anyone can confirm it?

In the parks, the counter-service menus often list only complete meals, such as a sandwich with fries or fruit, entree with corn on the cob, etc. A little known fact is that you can order anything you want a la carte! If you just want the sandwich, say so. Otherwise you may be paying up to $2 for that side item you don't want. This applies to adult meals only -- kids' meals are only sold as a package

And, how have you done this?

Thanks for any ideas or answers.

At the Pinocchio Haus in the MK a couple weeks ago, I ordered a pizza only (without the salad, etc. meal) when I placed my order with the CM at the cash register. No problem at all.

We went to Roaring Forks for lunch, I ordered a burger but did not want the fries...it was only $1 less

I order this way whenever we're not on the Dining Plan, not much of a fries girl these days.

We do this all the time. At first, my husband was very hesitant to just order a burger or just a hot dog. Then I started doing it so when he's not in a fry mood, he does it as well. It's easy. When you get to the person taking the orders, simply say "I'll have just a cheeseburger" or "I'll have just a hot dog". This is really nice for families who will get a ton of fries if they order a basket and most of those will go to waste. Just order one of two baskets, a couple of just sandwiches and split the fries between everyone.
