If I was lucky enough to stay in a AKV value studio in Jan '09, would there be any type of construction that could put a damper on our stay. I keep seeing conflicting reports and don't know what to believe. We have never stayed at AKL (or AKV) and don't know what to expect. And that's another thing, are the Jambo House AKV rooms located in a different building than the AKL or is it the same. I know that the value rooms are smaller but are there any other drawbacks? There would only be two of us staying in each room and we thought the AllStar rooms were adequate for 2. My daughter is 17 and I thought AKV may have more to offer her. Our other choice is OKW.
Thanks, denise and Chuck

The sunset savanna will not have animals from Jan. 15 - Apr. 15, 2009. Not all value studios face the savanna. You can request a room away from the construction, however it is only a request and not a guarantee. The value rooms are 316 sq. ft. compared to 260 sq. ft at the value resorts. The only difference that has been reported between the value rooms and all others is the bed is next to the slider instead of the pull out sofa. check the link below for an overhead view of AKV. Oh yeah, AKV is on the 5th and 6th floors of the existing lodge (Jambo). Kidani will be all DVC.

I appreciate the info but I'm more concerned if there will be any construction going on in Jan '09 that may cause some disturbance either in our rooms or in the lobby. I am aware that the animals have been moved. Secondly, I was wondering if AKV would suit the needs of a 17 year old better than OKW. It seems that AKV may have more to offer her, such as hanging out in the lobby or a better food selection for a quick bite or just the atmosphere itself. Any input is greatly appreciated.

The construction of Kidani is ongoing, but it shouldn't affect Jambo House itself. That said, if you have a room that faces/borders Kidani then you could be affected by the construction there. I guess there is no real way to tell. It would depend on the room you are assigned and the state of construction at that time.

As for your 17yo, yes, there are more extensive quick-service food options at AKL/AKV than there are at OKW. The lobby is also more elaborate than that at OKW and there are always the animals to see. AKL/AKV is a hotel, while OKW is more like a community.

well most 17 girls are interested in boys of the same age group.

they will be at OKW too. just go0 look in the pools. that say I think the most were over at BC.

the construction in Jan, 09 - is all outside. It might effect your view - but that is all.

Currently listed by Disney:

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

March 5, 2007 – April 30, 2009: Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas will be under construction. Construction of the Kidani Village impacts both inside the existing resort structure as well as in external areas of the property including views of the savanna. Additionally, Guests may experience significant renovation noise in the room.

Now – Dec. 1, 2008: New security kiosk. There may be detours and a coned-off area.

Now – Jan. 30, 2009: Building exterior repair and paint (Phase 1 of 2). High reaches (no scaffolding) will be used. Letters to Guests will be placed in the rooms that will be impacted.

Aug. 25 – Sept. 26, 2008: Flamingo habitat pool filtration replacement. The exhibit area will be sectioned off during the work.

Sept. 15-26, 2008: Pool Bar security windows and the shade system will be replaced. Guests may hear some noise in the pool area. The pool and the pool bar will remain open during the refurbishment.

Sept. 22-26, 2008: Replacement of six hand-woven rugs in the lobby. The area surrounding the rugs will be sectioned off while the work is completed.

Hope that helps. Things could change closer to the date.

There are night vision goggles to use at AKL, personally think the pool slide is wimpy, no walking trails. Animal are cool. It's a hotel atmosphere.

OKW has a far superior pool slide, boat to DTD if your 17 yo likes to shop. There are wonderful quiet pools at OKW and great walks available. This is more like a condo/apt atmosphere. The rooms are the largest of DVC.

It's a hard choice because both locations are beautiful. Check out the resort photos on allearsnet.com That may help you decide
