Just wondering if anyone knows WHY this is happening.

SO I remember a while ago when people were posting in some dvc chats I follow that the Value studios at Jambo were unavailable in December and Jan ... people thought Disney might be pulling some shady stuff and selling the for cash for the busy / expensive season. Turns out that while the regular rooms at Jambo are getting refurbished ...and they are BEAUTIFUL .... the Value Studios are also getting refurbished from December through Early SPring ...BUT ... they JUST GOT a hard refurb like 2 years ago as did all the dvc rooms ... just wondering WHY the value rooms are getting redone again ...

I don't think that they are getting redone. I understand from reading on here that it is because hotel rooms in the same area are being worked on.

^^ THIS.

Because of the hotel side refurbishment, access to the Value Villas is blocked off. In this map: http://www.parkinfo2go.com/dvc-akv/floor5.php, the white spaces along the Giraffe & Ostrich Trails are hotel rooms and the colored spaces are DVC Value Villas.

AKV was last refurbished in 2016, so the next refurbishment won't be until 2023.

Does anyone know when the refurbs start? I have three value rooms next week and will be checking out on the 1st. I'm hoping there's no chance of refurbishment starting early on one hallway and there being noise close by.

Don't own at AK and wouldn't try getting a Value room myself. That being said does Disney not have to rehab in a certain way to continue to give access to DVC inventory? I get it, its easier on Disney to just shut off access but seems strange Disney can just be like "nope sorry we will just shut down a portion of DVC because of construction on something completely unrelated".

Yes, they can take rooms out of service if there is a need. Guest safety in that area is certainly a valid reason not to mention the noise and the disruption that could cause.

I doubt they will start when the rooms are booked since the reason for not allowing them to be booked was renovation.

I think if they were going to start early, guests would be moved. JMO

I don't think this make sense for several reasons. The DVC section is its own floor, isn't it ? There are no non-DVC rooms in the area from what I understand. If thats the case there is really no way refurbs/construction in the non-dvc section could interfere with the use of the DVC rooms (and value rooms in this case). When the work was being done in the rest of the resort, Floors/sections were being blocked off, but the adjacent rooms and those below and above weren't impacted.

The rooms I highlighted in blue are the DVC value rooms. The ones I highlighted in yellow are regular hotel rooms.
