AKV - Savannah view or value room?

I'm thinking of trying to rent some DVC points for the 2nd week of December at the AKV, and I'm wondering if the savannah view rooms are worth getting over the value rooms? Are there actually going to be animals outside my window, if so, which floor(s) is the best to be on?

From what I've seen in pictures, the savannah view rooms look great and IMO completely worth the added cost. However, bear in mind that because the AKV's are so new and you are going at a very popular time, it might be more difficult and expensive to obtain DVC points for your stay. Just in case, I would have 1 or 2 "backup" DVC resorts chosen so that if you are unable to get points at AKV, you could at least get points for another DVC resort. :)

I have a feeling that value is not even going to be an option. They are going fast.

The other thing to realize is that they are smaller then the normal studios.

Actually right now on the DVC boards folks are reporting LOTS of waitlists for early December.....for most of the resorts!

I inquired about renting points for AKV for one of the first 2 weeks of December. I think for one week, there were 3 studios available, but no 1 br...

There are still rooms available in AKL though....

as a DVC owner, i've been on a waitlist for a value studio for the 1st week in december since april...a couple of nights just came through but i may be splitting my stay between different resorts. (most owners won't bother with a waitlist for renters, though. it certainly can be something of a hassle.)

i doubt there will be much available at ALL to rent for december at this point. best of luck, though.

i love visiting the AKV/L but have never stayed there before. i love both boma and jiko and the christmas decorations (including the big tree in the lobby) and the african music get me pumped up, so i plan to try it out eventually.

savannah view rooms generally do have views of animals outside the balconies. (some work out better than others for a variety of reasons, from what i've read.) BTW, some value rooms also have a savannah view, although it's not guaranteed.

There are two types of Savannah rooms.. standard and preferred... imagine that the hotel is a half moon shape... the preferred rooms are on the inside of the moon and the standard are on the outside of the moon... the animals have to go to the barn by walking around the outside of the moon but generally are on the otherside of it in the inside of the moon.... In other words... if its between preferred and value go for preferred... if its standard and value go with value... we had the standard once and saw all of 1 animal that time as it was chased back into the barn... otherwise it was like a extra wide alley way with shrubs.

Oh great. We like to go 2nd week cuz it's usually been quiet, for the exception of last year. Looks like here on out 2nd week of December's gonna look like summer break. :headache: Damn!:furious:

actually DVC is usually pretty busy from mid-nov to new year's, even avoiding thanksgiving and christmas weeks. it costs fewer pts to stay during this time and the parks are usually relatively quiet. (with pop warner being the 2nd week this year, not sure if that'll still be the case.)

if you decide to try to rent DVC during december, it's probably a good idea to start looking for an owner at least 11 months beforehand, maybe even a little before that...
