AKV reservations...what did you get?????

graygables, the unit number is directly tied to use year. Somebody was keeping a running total and the use years were all grouped in the same unit number(s). We bought AKV the very first day it was available, and since we have a September use year we bought into unit 34 (or maybe 35). So even though we bought the first day, our unit is one that won't be ready until September 1st (just coincidental that it's also our use year start).
I think graygables point was that two owners with same UY may have different occupancy dates. For example, some AKV owners with a Mar UY own Unit 27 with an occupancy date of Sep 1st. A smaller number of owners who also have a Mar UY own Unit 45 with an occupancy date in July. So your UY doesn't determine your occupancy date, but your Unit does.

This is the only situation where unit number is important - at opening. It is not UY that matters EXCEPT that because of my use year, April, I was given unit number 28 which does not open until September 1.

There is one other time Unit number matters (and I hope it never occurs) but I believe I read in the documents that if your Unit is destroyed, DVC can opt to give you the insurance settlement rather than rebuild your Unit. If that happens then you no longer own those points. So the resort would continue to exist (minus that Unit) but unless you owned points in another Unit there, you would no longer be an owner at that resort.

Must protect my unit at all costs! :scared1:

Thank you, Lisa! Yes, my points were allocated from AKV to VWL in the beginning of this year, so they indeed made a mistake. It has been a very frustrating two days to say the least. DH is actually happy we couldn't get AKV, because he wanted to stay at VWL anyway! DD and myself wanted to go to AKV, so I have resigned myself to VWL, which I am sure I will love too! I just had my heart set on being at my favorite place with DD before she leaves for college, which mom is not handling well, so little things seem to get bigger. I will look forward to next year at AKV!

You might still try calling on June 6th to try to book AKV for your August dates using other points. You might get lucky! With all of the promotional materials stating that AKV opens in the fall, perhaps not too many people will be trying for a reservation in August. If you called right when MS opens that day, I think you would have a pretty good chance of getting your dates.

On the other hand, VWL is really wonderful. We just returned from there a few days ago and we just loved it. DH and I are huge fans of AKL but after two stays at VWL, we're finding ourselves just as happy staying there. And it was great being just a boat ride away from the MK!

I hope you have a great trip, wherever you end up!

Well, the website finally let me in this morning. Don't know if it's been pointed out, but my reservation states 'Ded Studio Sav View Jambo'. I'm glad it seems like you'll be able to know which building you'll be confirmed in from the website.

Going back to OPs original query: Called May 16 in the afternoon (about 3:30 eastern) for a 2BR savanna view for Jan 1 to 8. Told there was nothing available for that time. Called back today, May 18, for the same type of room and dates. Got it easily, still plenty of availability left for same time. In other words, if you got turned down for something on the first calling day, try calling back.

I mentioned the same thing over in the "DVC website having problems" thread. That "end" on the description pretty much answers the question about whether you'll know where you're booked (buildingwise), when you book, or not.

Also, if you didn't get your room and are traveling later in the year, you want to get on the waitlist. I remember when BCV open, rooms were moved from developer inventory to member inventory as the units sold. So,for example between now and September, if additional units are sold in the block of rooms opening in September, new rooms will be available for booking using points.

I just got of the phone with MS. I booked 2 reservations on Wednesday
1 night in September and 2 nights in April '08
The September reservation was not reflected in the vacation details, but it was reflected in my points activity statement. When the CM brought up the reservation number i was given for 1 night in September it reflected Dec 31 check in january 4th checkout dates- it was a mess.
She indicated that i would need to start over for my 1 night in September and rebook, thankfully it was still available. I would suggest everyone check the website to confirm your reservations for AKV

It took me one hour of calling non stop to finally got through on May 16th, but I was able to finally by 9:00 am. Booked October 19-26 in a one bedroom savanna view. I was really worried that there would be no savannah views left.

We are so excited about this stay more so than any others we have had. We have always wanted to stay at AK but since it was not a DVC resort we just didnt want to spend the amount of points it would take to do so.

Congrats to all those who booked as well.

:woohoo: We closed on a VWL resale contract last week. Today 5/22/07 was the first day we were in the DVC computer system. Today we wasted no time and did an addon at AKV. Today we booked: :cloud9:

AKV 1 bedroom Savanna View checking in on October 8, 2007 for 4 nights
moving to,
AKV studio Savanna View on October 12, 2007 for 3 nights.

Disney Dreamin'

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I got my reservations! 1 bedroom for 2 nights after our Disney Wonder 4-day. April 24-26, 2008!!!

I am so excited! I can't believe I will be staying at AKV. If not for DVC, the Animal Kingdom Lodge is not a resort that we would ever be able to pay cash for.

I  DVC!

We just made our reservation with no problem. Being that it was over a week after booking started, I wasn't even planning to ask but I figured I'd give it a try. Surprisingly they had what I wanted.

We just booked 2 studios, 1 savanna 1 regular, for the week of Nov 10 - 17 after our 7 nights on the Magic! :yay:

Can't wait!!!!!!! :yay: :dance3:

And my waitlist for a 2br SV has already come though! Now my DBrother and his family from CA had better be able to make the Christmas trip -- it's their present!

I got 2 studios 1 savannah and one standard today for Nov 21 and 22. I was on dvcmember.com last night and "saw" my add on update. Called first thing this AM. When I called to check yesterday there was only 1 studio available for the 22nd. I am EXCITED.

I booked a 1-BR SV for Dec 2 - Dec 7.

I wrote to DVC to again reiterate my frustration at owning AKL and being put into the General DVC pool.
No matter how many times they indicate this is fair. there is no way I will agree that it is.

Again I bought AKV for the home advantage in this particular case AKV owners were not given the home resort priority. And honestly you can bet, I am not going to be a happy camper come june 6th if I end up not getting a reservation and BWV< etc...et... etc... owners get what they are seeking.

this is a huge drawback from a customer service stand point.

I would also like to point out as I did to MS that despite the line they are throwing about anyone with a September occupancy date NOT being able to use those points. except for a reservation for After September first is false.I added one night at BWV in August and wanted to borrow for the reservation. I was told I was unable to borrow as I had AKL points available for use.
Correct I said but.. I am being told I can only use them after September 1. hence not being able to use them at AKL and was told no. I MUST use AKL points first.

OK who is dense here? (MS) The points are NOT available to use Until after 9/1. anywhere.
(MS)2 seconds later. You must use the AKL points for August.
(ME)But wait... you said...... they are not for use till after 9/1.this ressie is mid August.
and I was then told and I directly quote.(MS) " I know its confusing isn't it?"

What the heck?????it's double speak and incredibly frustrating. :rolleyes1
