AKV... questions from a newbie

DH and I LOVE Animal Kingdom Lodge and we are in heaven that they are building AKV. I actually didn't realize this was happening until yesterday (I'm waaaaay behind on the Disney news ). Anyway, are they currently selling? Do you think they will sell out quickly? What is the price per point? Since we are brand new to DVC, how would we go about purchasing? Although we would love to jump on it now, we have a baby on the way and are not really in a position to do it just yet and I'm worried they will sell out.

Will it sell out? IMO, yep - eventually.

It's going to be a big resort so I'm sure it will take a little while. The Kidani building isn't even scheduled to open fully until 2009, I think.

Anyone can purchase now, I believe. I think the current price is $101 per point. And I know it's going up sometime soon...I remember getting the little postcard in the mail...but I can't remember when or how much...I want to say early June. I already bought my AKV points so I just recycled it.

Best bet to purchase is to call DVC directly...as luck would have it...I don't know that number either... ...but you can go to disneyvacationclub.com and I think there's a number you can call to get assigned to a guide to get the information/purchase ball rolling.

Even if you aren't ready to purchase this minute, you can still request info on it.

To add to what zulaya already posted, the price is going up on June 5th. Currently, the price for new members is $104 but the price for existing members adding on more points is still $101 through June 4th, and then it goes up to $104.

There is an $8/pt incentive available at AKV for existing members adding on at least 100 points and for new members buying in (minimum purchase for new members is 160 points). Instead of the incentive, you can get a set of "developer points" that expire 7 months from purchase. Developer points cannot be banked or transferred. It's not clear if the incentive price (or developer points) will still be available after June 4th.

Existing members can add on as few as 25 points (or 50 points if you want Disney financing) but you won't get the $8/pt incentive or developer points unless you add on at least 100 points. There are no closing costs for members adding on more points.

We just completed our first purchase at AKV so I'm pretty familiar with the process. The current "cash" incentive is $96/point ($104 - $8 discount).

The minimum number of points to buy in is 160. A down payment of 10% of the financed amount is required and you can get terms up to 10 years at 10.75%. The interest rate is a little high but we intend to pay it off in 2-3 years, but you have up to 10 if you need it. The annual dues aren't part of the financing but will be pro-rated the first year. I believe it is around $4.62/pt for AKV annual dues right now.

For the 160 minimum your monthly payments would be around $200/month + the annual dues which would run around $750/year. You can pay the dues annually or have 1/12th the amount drafted each month. There are closing costs of around $350 for a financed purchase, but these can be rolled into the financing and don't have to be paid out of pocket.

You can get your choice of several Use Years (we chose March) and may be able to take advantage of your 2007 points now (depending on UY). You can also start booking AKV starting tomorrow, May 16th, if your home resort is AKV for stays starting in as early as July (depends on the unit you get ownership in).
