AKV or VWL

I have been reading these boards for a while and they have been really helpful. So I have decided to take the plunge and become a DVC member.

Now I can't decide whether I should buy VWL resale or AKV from DVC. The price works out about the same with the incentives. I have 2 kids 6 and 3, and they like both places. We have only stayed at the wilderness lodge, and the boat ride to the MK is pretty magical. The kids really like the animals at the AKL too. Any Advice? THX.

AKV expires in 2057. VWL expires in 2042. if you're young, that can make a difference.

OTOH, VWL is much much smaller. my guess is that if own at VWL and want to book AKV on occasion at 7 months, you will have more success than if you owned at AKV and wanted to book VWL at 7 months, especially in nov/dec. YMMV, though.

Your basically asking us if you should buy the silver BMW or the silver Benz !!! In either case you are getting one great car but while the BWM may work for me, the Benz may work better for you. Personally, I bought into VWL and I do not regret it, but of course AKV was not available back then.

The resorts are similiar in themeing and WDW experience but I would still buy at VWL because of it's location to MK and the other MK area resorts. AKV is great but it's a bit isolated from the other parts of WDW....buuuuut...AKV has the animals, etc.

As I said....BMW or Benz..????

Just this year we became DVC members. We bought VWL resale which at the time for us was quite a discount (over $10/pt) compared to buying AKV. Then we added on at AKV!

If you truely are torn then you could watch for a smaller VWL resale and then add a smaller AKL. A banking/borrowing strategy would allow you to stay at each every other year and still have the 11 month priority booking window at each.

Otherwise the main difference is the longer contract length at AKV. But I do agree with the PP that because of the difference in the size of the resorts that it will probably be easier to trade into AKV than VWL at 7 months. And if you would want Xmas at VWL then it probably won't happen unless you own there.

For us - if I ever had to make a choice the AKV contract would go. WL was always our favorite resort over AKL.
