We just got our resale finalized and are planning our early January vacation. We have never seen akv but want to try it out.

Any recommendations where to stay? We want a 1-br for me, dw, and our 9,7, and 4 yr olds. Should we get a value (fewer pts), or standard? If standard - which of the two akv options - kidani or jambo?

We know nothing - so any advice is appreciated.

The Value 1-bedroom is smaller and doesn't have the sleeper chair. It may be crowded with 5 people. They are approx. 3 feet shorter then the other 1-bedroom units.

The Standards at AKV all have a sleeper chair. At Jambo House, all Standards have a pool view. At Kidani Village, they can have either a pool view, garden view or parking lot view. The Jambo House 1-bedrooms have 1 bath, Kidani Village has 2.

Also, Kidani Village doesn't have any counter service dining. Jambo House has The Mara which is counter service.

I don't think you can book a Value room for 5 people so you will probably have to go with a Standard View room.

1 bedroom standard at Kidani have the 2nd bathroom. I think with your family, the second bathroom would be welcomed. I would go with savannah view though, in Kidani.

Issue No. 1: what do you mean by early Jan. This close to expected date, you may have problems getting what you want particularly if "early Jan" includes Jan 1- 3 which will still have the large holiday crowd and all rooms could be full. You may even have problems for times in Jan thereafter particularly for value or standard view.

Value room is really too small for 5 even if they allow it. Standard at either Jambo of Kidani would be fine except Kidani 1BR is about 90 sq ft larger than Jambo's and has an extra bathroom. If having very comfortable space is a major factor, Kidani wins.

If you have car, Kidani is ideal because you park on ground floor under building and with elevators along the wings you can always park fairly close to room no matter where you are. Jambo standard guarantees pool view, Kidani you can get pool or road. Note, probability is that you won't be using the pool much while there but some possibility of warm enough days (been there in Jan when it was 75 and above every day; also was there in 2010 when it never got to 50 and was 28 in the morning). Both pools are nice, Jambo's larger, Kidani has longer slide and kids water play area.

Kidani has only table service restaurant, Jambo has table service, buffet, and counter service restaurants. Thus, if daily use of counter service restaurant is a must, then Jambo is the better choice (walk from Kidani to Jambo is 1/2 mile).

I don't want to hi-jack this thread but I have a similar question. Whats the difference between a 2 bedroom standard vs value other than the third bathroom?

The are smaller and only hold 8 people max. Values are only at Jambo.

OP value one bed is not an option for you they only hold 4.

The standard two bedroom at Jambo House will not have the third bathroom and it will be a lockoff (meaning the second bedroom will be a studio with a separate entrance and one queen/one double sleeper sofa).
