Ok I bit the bullet to speak and will spend 2 days at AKV. I really have little desire to but I'm not sure why so I'm going to give it a try. It is a father/daughter (7yr old) trip and we are staying the rest of the time at BCV. I have been reading and get confused easily with AKV as to what to request.

So I did get a Savanah view any place I should request such as near x or floor y? I assume the higher the better? I doubt I will get it but is the conc rooms worth putting in a waitlist? With that said it looks like to get the special sunrise tour you have to be a conc room guest.

It will be late august so this will be our break from the parks and relax at the resort days. I heard great things about the pools and my daughter would live in a pool if you let her. She also loves seeing the animals so I'm sure that will be a big hit of the Savanah view. Any most see or do's for a 7 yr old with a great imagination that I should know about:confused3

We don't mind walking but prefer to be close to things unless there is a good reason. Such as the best views of the animals are the furthest away from the pools etc.

Thanks in advance for your input........it will be interesting to see if I fall in love with AKV or not.

I see your an early bird! We always request something around Zebra Trail or Arusha Rock and the views have worked out very good. DVC rooms are already the top 2 floors so you will be in good shape there, the bottom 4 floors I believe are Cash ressies. The pool at Jambo is zero entry and I believe the biggest of all DVC's however go next store to Kadani pool and your 7 year old will go nuts....great play area but also the slide at Kidani is off the charts, she won't stop riding it. Also Kidani has a kids pool party every day (know sure the time), she get to dunk the Dad in a water balloon contest (very hilarious, good camera moment.

Community hall at Kadani is also great, and check the kids activity scghedule, if she complete I think 5 things, she get a African beaded necklace, each thing she completes she gets a bead.

Don't forget night google time to viewing, at the end of the Jambo pool area.

Sunrise tour is conceirge only, you are correct. If you have it do it, best tour and awesome breakfast at the end.

Between Jambo pool and activities and Kadani pool activites, no reason to leave the property!

Don't forget cookie decoratiing activity and also check with front desk, you can do a short back room tour of Jiko and Saana and learn some of the African cooking customs, I think they do that daily (late afternoon)

We will be there Aug. 15 to 22 Good luck

Sorry missed on your header, you are at Kidani.....all S.V. are good there but Kidani is very long halls, grab the nearest to Main Lobby. It is a smaller more intimate lodge versus Jambo, great R and R lodge. If you ever need more action just wlak next store to Jambo. If you do n ot get a room closet to main lobby, definitely request one that is then IN BETWEEN Jambo and Kadini and not on the far end of Kidani, that way when you want to toggle between the 2 lodges, the walk is much shorter. There is a designated walk path that connects the 2. Some people feel it is long and inconvenient but really it is not bad at all probably under 1/2 at most. Ten minutes or less between the 2 main lodges.

It will depend on which building at AKV you choose to stay at. There are two buildings, Jambo House and Kidani Village. The Jambo House Villas consist of hotel rooms converted into DVC villas. The villas are located on the 5th floor of Jambo House and the Concierge rooms are located on the 6th floor of Jambo House. There are also some Value villas that are even smaller than the standard studios. Here's link of maps showing the location of the different Jambo House villas, http://www.parkinfo2go.com/dvc-akv/floor5.php.

Kidani Village was built as DVC villas. There is not much of a difference in size between a standard studio at either Jambo House or Kidani, however a Value studio is smaller (you lose about three feet off the length of the room).

Studio
AKV Kidani - 366
Jambo - 365
Value - 316

At Kidani you can get a villa with a savanna view as low as the second floor. I've read that with these lower floors (2nd and 3rd-same level as the lobby) you can see the animals better because the higher floors are affected by the trees and you may need binoculars to see that animals close up from your villa. That's is the biggest complaint I have with Jambo House the villas all are on the 5 and 6 floor.

It will be late august so this will be our break from the parks and relax at the resort days. I heard great things about the pools and my daughter would live in a pool if you let her. Night vision binoculars are provided for your use at a viewing area at Jambo House near the hot tub. Either in your room or welcome packet you'll have a list of the animals on your savanna. A great check off item. Some of the activities I've seen are creating a beaded necklace. Some welcoming ceremonies. Something to do with making rubbings of floor brass designs. It varies with each week.

Kidani also has only one table service restaurant, Sanaa. And the on CS option is the pool restaurant which has a limited menu. You can see the menus on Allears.net. The Kidani pool is really popular with kids. But some parents prefer the pool at Jambo House because it has more shaded areas around the pool and the pool is just larger.

There is a 10 minute walk between Kidani and Jambo House front door to front door. But since Kidani is so long sometimes your actual walk is longer from your villa to lobby. But I think part of that is that as you walk the hallway you have views of the animals and get distracted. I would think that the longest walk might add 5 minutes.

If you will be going to the pool more than anything, you might find it convenient to stay near the pool. There are stairs that go down to the parking garage with door right out to the pool. Or some go to the lobby and then out to the pool.

You can use the facilities at either building including the pools, community hall, and fitness centers. If you drive, many have posted that it is really convenient to have your villa near an elevator so you can go directly down to the parking garage underneath Kidani.

I'll let others talk about the Concierge villas.

Enjoy your time at AKV.

You say you have Kidani. Put in a request now for Sunset savanna view, close to lobby, lower floor. It is lower floor not upper that is considered better view by many because of direct line sight to animals. Close to the lobby puts you close to an area where animals often gather and close to restaurant, pool, community hall, bus stop, store (rooms far from lobby can be over 1/4 mile from those things). Sunset savanna has giraffes, Pembe savanna at Kidani does not. Most savanna view rooms are on Sunset and close to the lobby would automatically get that view. There is no issue with Sunset that close to pool means poor view of animals, pool is on opposite (front) side of building.

Highly unlikely concierge (only at Jambo) would come through off of waitlist. Also, be aware it is fine for concierge service but it is not great for views. Of the five conceirge studios, two overlook pool and three have view of Sunset but not the best.

I agree conceirge views are fair at best!

WOW that was fast - thanks everyone, calling MS today to put in request. We have a WL for BLT but you got me exicted, I'm sure my daughter will love this stuff!!! Going to cancel BLT request, we have already stayed there and have not been to AKL before.

We will be there Aug 23-25th, I hope we get what we want.

Thanks so much everyone this is exactly the info I was looking for!!!!!!!!

Yup going to pass on concierge as my daughter doesn't eat much and she will want the great views over anything else! Putting my request in today from your suggeston - thanks so much.
