anyone been the past few days and how warm were the pools, given the chilly weather? Is Jambo or Kidani warmer? OR forget swimming if it is below 60?

There is no clear cut answer to the question of whether to swim now, as you no doubt know.

One thing is sure, the temperature of the air now, except for certain parts of the day, is much less than the swimming pool water.

Maybe one indication is that Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach have been closed during the cold spell. But, this may not help.

I think it's shorter to run back into Jambo than Kidani! I know I'm hoping to manage a quick early morning swim at VWL (another quick run from pool to entrance) once we get there on Friday! I always have in the past, but maybe I'm just being optimistic!

We got back from AKV last night and I never saw anyone swimming in either the Jambo House or Kidani Village pools. (We had a split stay and had a view of the pools both times.) I can't speak to the weather today, but steam was rising from the pools. There were some children in the hot tub with fully dressed parents near by.

I can't speak to the weather today, but when we got off the plane in Salt Lake City, it was warmer than in Florida.

November 2008 was the coldest WDW trip I've ever experienced - I don't recall how cold it was, but we were seriously bundled up. It was definitely below 40 a couple of days. There were people swimming in the WL pools every single day, even at night. I believe they were part polar bear. ;)

Frankly, I grew up in tropical or near-tropical areas and I don't like to swim unless the air temperature is warmer than the water temperature, and I don't like the water to be cold, either. (i.e., swimming at Miami Beach is WAY different than swimming at the Jersey Shore!)

I think all the pools are heated to 85 degrees, although sometimes in the summer they feel even warmer than that.

I went at the end of September/beginning October at AKL and went swimming. The pool water was warm but even then the outside air made it SO cold that I ended up leaving only after 30mins. I could barely get my DH in let alone have him stay in longer then that! I cannot imagine with it being colder now wanting to go in, but I might be a bit of a weather baby lol.

But if it's cold they close because they don't expect enough people to pay to freeze. I have in the past seen people in steaming pools, but not many.

On Dec 5-6 the resort pools were almost all empty as air temps were 55-35 but pool temps were 80-82.

We were told in October that Disney does heat any of the pools until the winter months. They let the sun heat them the other months. The pool maintenance CM at BLT said they set the temperature to 80 degrees in the winter for all of the Disney pools.

I have to admit I wonder if it really is cold out, how consistent that temperature really will be because there is so much surface heat loss. I'd take a warm robe to get from the hotel to the pool and back again. Or then again I wouldn't be swimming if the air temperature is below 80 degrees anyway. Heck I wear a jacket when it's 65 degrees out. :upsidedow

We were at AKL on 11/28-12/5. DS swam on the 28/29/30, it was a little cool for my liking but lots of people were in. The temps really dropped mid week and we rarely saw anyone in there later on.
