If someone is at AKV and could check something for me, I would be grateful. I would like to know if room 5302 exists. If it does, it will be on the Kudu Trail facing the Sunset Savanna (so it will be on the left side of the hallway as you walk away from the lobby). It should be the first room on the left after you pass the first "spur" off the Kudu Trail, just past the elevator. (Don't turn left towards the elevator and go down that spur -- keep walking along the horseshoe.) I have it in my database as 5302 but have seen other room data that lists it as 5304.

I believe the room numbers along that section should be 5302, 5306, 5308, 5310 and 5312 but it's possible that whoever assigned that room its number gave it 5304 instead. I would like to correct my Jambo House room database if necessary. Thanks!!

According to DVCnews.com room 5302 is dedicated studio on the Kudu trail with a sunset savana view. Looks like you have good info.:thumbsup2 Won't be there till 8/16/09 if you can wait till then I will take picture of the room number for you:rotfl2:

Thanks the response. The data you are seeing on DVCnews was initially populated from my database, so that is why it is the same. This is what motivated me to track this down -- if I gave DVCnews incorrect data I want to correct it ASAP. Where I saw a discrepancy is on this map which lists that room as 5404.

I think Diane will be there tomorrow - why not send her a PM. Maybe she will be in Jambo and do a first hand check for you. Wish I were going, too. I'm tired of the cold and the snow.

One More Sleep

We're going to be meeting with Diane on Wednesday and we're all going to explore the area. We can take a look at the rooms (and take photos) for you.

We'll also be double checking on the pathway from Kidani to the Lodge/Jambo.

PM me if you have anything specific that you need to know.

Checked it out and there is no room 5302. That room is numbered 5304....

The interesting thing is that two floors lower, that room position is number 3302.

Of even more interest is that on the 4th floor, the entire wing beginning with room 3401, is blocked off. Wonder if it's just for refurbishment or if they're going to convert more of the Lodge rooms to DVC. Time will tell.

Regarding walking across the service entrance we checked and it appears OK. No worse than walking across an intersectiion. There are stop signs for all service traffic.

The basic pathway goes along the backside of the Kidani buildings, crosses the service entrance road, follows the sidewalk along the regular (not the handicap) Lodge parking lot. Crosses the road for traffic exiting the check-in parking area, and eventually goes up the steps toward the main entrance to the Lodge.

Hope this helps

Thank you very much for doing this! Based on the floor plans it should have been 5302 so that is what I assigned to it in the database. I will correct it!

Thanks for the detailed photos of the walk from Kidani to Jambo House! The original drawings show a nice grassy area between the two buildings with no hint that it is a delivery and service area for both buildings. I was quite surprised the first time I saw it in person. I had hoped they had some great plan to route walkers around the area somehow but short of building an elevated walkway between the upper floors on each side, there probably wasn't much they could do.

ETA: Looking at your photos again and re-reading your description, the service area is not the only place where walkers will be crossing a roadway. Something for parents to think about when considering whether they want to allow their kids to walk from one pool area to the other on their own.
