AKV Concierge - How would it work?

There seem to be a lot of rumors about a concierge level at AKV. I don't understand how that would work financially.

It's always been my understanding that DVC points pay for ACCOMMODATIONS while dues pay for SERVICES. I don't see how DVC could create a higher-point class of room for concierge and limit member access to just those booked into the more expensive rooms, while making all members fund the concierge desk through annual dues.

It seems like using points to obtain a concierge add-on turns them into a financial commodity. If that would work, why not a separate room class that lets people get the DDP using points? How about a length-of-stay park pass room?

I could see them making concierge services an add-on you could pay for at check-in (much like DDP), but I can't wrap my mind around the budgetary realities of a separate room class. Anyone else figure this out?

I haven't seen the previous discussions but I'm with your thinking -- I don't think they could offer a concierge level. When Vero first opened, the idea was that the Inn would offer a "hotel" option for DVC members. If you stayed in the Inn you had full housekeeping service. That didn't last long before members protested about the two levels of service in the Inn vs. the villas.

Once AKL opens, I suspect we won't be able to stay at the concierge level at all. Just as is the case with every other WDW hotel that offers DVC. I would hope that they might find a way that DVC members could participate in the special safaris at the AK.

Interesting questions. I just assumed it would be as you describe, where the points required for the concierge services were a financial commodity.
I also figured that "financial commodity" would cover the associated costs of the concoierge desk; much like using points for the Disney Collection.

It does bring up some interesting points though:

1) Will concierge be mandatory if staying in those rooms? In other words, will that section of rooms automatically have a higher point requirement?
This option would not likely work, as it would seem to eliminate the financial commodity part of it since there wouldn't be any rooms to give CRO.

-or-

2) Will you be able to add concierge with any points, regardless of which home resort those points are from? If so, how does the 7/11 month window work? They usually limit the number of concierge guests, so perhaps a concierge add on will follow home resort rules.

I wish all DVC resorts had this option, whether it be via points or cash. :smokin:
