I am in town for a long conference at the Gaylord. We will be spending 6 nights at the Gaylord.

We currently have 200 BLT pts waiting for ROFR, and since we have only stayed at BLT we thought it would be cool to check out anther DVC resort after the conference.

We ended up with 2 nights at AKV studio Club level and are very excited.
How are these rooms? Where in the resort are they and is the resort pretty spread out? One of our favorite things about BLT is that everything is not so spread out.

Also anyone stayed at Gaylord before? Thoughts?

:)I believe those rooms are on the 6th floor at Jambo...some may even be on the fifth. When you walk in the lobby at Jambo and are standing in the middle of the lobby looking forward at the savannah, look up and behind you and you can see the Concierge lobby. So it is at the front of the resort over the lobby entrance. All of the restaurants are off the lobby with easy access. Access from the fifth floor stairs and elevator are room key sensitive obviously. The views are not well received but then the services are.....have a great trip. For Jambo rooms are closer to lobby, at Kidani not so much with the very long hallways. We love our home resort and really wouldnt change a thing.

I love driving up and how the landscape blends in with the colors of the building, I love the dark decor and the lobby music.

Sounds great!! We are very excited and have heard nothing but great things about the resort! My DW is a bit skeptical since it is so isolated (she really like walking to MK from BLT) but I told her since this never seems to bother anyone staying there, AKV must really be great!

There are only 5 CL studios possible on the 6th floor. The view will be a poor savanna view or a roof top view with the pool in the distance. You aren't allowed to request the view.

IMO they gave the rooms to DVC so that cash guests wouldn't complain.

The food and drink offerings are nice for a couple of days, daily room cleaning and turn down service.

Everyone should give AKV CL a try and experience they for themselves, have fun and report back please.

Staying at AKL is a very different experience than staying at BLT, we own and have stayed at both. We love AKL mostly because it is away from everything else in "the World". It is likely the closest thing to a real African Savannah Lodge experience that can be had in the USA. It is our first choice to stay at when we are not going to the parks every day. The CL rooms are worth staying in at least once. Hopefully OP gets one of the three studios on the Sunset Savannah side. The view is a little high and partially obstructed by the roof, but it is still a Savannah view.

A dead end savanna view not a wide savanna with animals walking by.

The advantage to these rooms is they are steps away from the lounge. Cash club level guests at AKL are on the 4th floor, so they have to travel up 2 floors to get to the lounge. Club guests used to get the deluxe size rooms on the 5th & 6th floors but these were used for the conversion to DVC. So now cash club level guests get the regular size rooms. So while cash club guests get better savannah views, they now have smaller rooms and a distance to the lounge. So I would imagine they have complaints about DVC getting the 6th floor.

I didn't stay there but went to a conference at Gaylord Palms. It is a gorgeous property and those I spoke with who did stay there really liked it.
