Ok a friend of ours just gave my wife 200 points to use anytime before may this year as a gift. My DW and I used to be members years ago but we sold our contracts at BWV. So we have been out of the DVC loop for quite some time.

We were thinking of treating ourselves to concierge status at AKLV. Our question, are the extra points worth it? We would like a one bedroom because of our two children. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott, Peg, Tyler and Emily:cool1:

The only comment I have regarding AKV concierge is that it is highly unlikely that you will find any availability between now and May. There are only 5 concierge units (all 2BR lockoffs) so they are nearly impossible to get unless you are booking at the 11 month window.

You might get lucky with a waitlist, but I would definitely have a backup. The AKV is a beautiful resort and you should still consider staying there even if you can't get concierge.

Good luck!:wizard:

I think it's only worth it if you want to book the specialty tours and/or be lounge rats and take advantage of the food offerings. It's unlikely to be available so I suspect that will solve your problem anyway. 200 points will put you at 6 days in a 1 BR SV with one weekend night for most of that time other than spring break, you'll lose one extra night if you avoid weekends and do concierge. Enjoy.

That's a great gift!:santa:

The extra points are worth it and we really enjoy staying concierge. If you are going to be in the parks all day, not so much. There are a limited number of rooms available. 5 2 bedrooms is all that is allotted for AKV Concierge. All located on the 6th floor.

You are not guaranteed a Savannah view, as 5 units are on the pool view side.

At this point, I dont believe you will be able to book concierge due to limited availability, but you can try.

I would book SOMETHING as soon as possible if you want a chance to stay at the smaller resorts.

3 two BR lockoff SV and 2 pool view.

thank you soo much for the quick responses. yeah, it's been a while for us. We can't wait to get back to dvc.

If seeing the animals is important to you, I would go for a savannah view. Even if you are lucky enough to get conceirge, you are not guaranteed savannah view and the savannah view conceirge rooms aren't that good for viewing anyway.

As stated, three of the 2BR lockoffs on the Concierge level face the Sunset Savanna. In two of those units, the 1BR portion is HA. One of those HA 1BRs has a roll-in shower instead of a tub. So if you are lucky enough to book Concierge, and get a room facing the savanna, you have a 1 in 3 chance of not getting a bath tub. (The other HA 1BR has combined tub/shower with grab bars.)

Just an FYI: the only part of AKV that will be available between now and May 1st is Jambo House (the lodge building). The DVC rooms are on the 5th and 6th floors only. Unlike other DVC 1BRs, the 1BRs in Jambo House have a combined whirlpool tub and shower rather than a separate tub and shower stall. The new building at AKV (Kidani Village) opens on May 1st and those 1BRs will have a separate tub and shower stall, and have an additional full bathroom with toilet, sink and tub accessible from the living area.

Yes, I can attest to that! Last Christmas we were in 6202 1 bed concierge, no tub and this Christmas we were in 6205 1 bed Accessible unit with a tub. Didnt request anything this trip so no complaints but if you get a savannah view 1 bed, you will most likely get the Accessible units.
