I will be staying at AKL in Feb. Can you go on a safari ride at the resort or do you have to go to animal kingdom? And do they have the safari rides all day long or are there specific times to go? Has anyone done this?

the "safari ride" AT the lodge is called the "sunset safari" (or Wanyama) and is only available to concierge guests 12 and older. It's $150 per person. I do HIGHLY reccommend it..DH and I have done it twice.

It's only run twice a week I believe...and includes an outstanding meal at Jiko...limited to 8 people per safari.

The three savannas at the AKL are completely sepreate from the savannas over at the AK. The Safari Ride over at the AK. If you stay Concierge at the AKL you are eligible to pay an additional fee to take the Sunset Safari Tour. This tour is of the three savannas located at the AKL and then dinner at Jiko. When we took this tour back in Jan of 2004 it was limited to I think eight people.

We have a four year old that wanted to go ... the rule is that if you have kids under 12 you have to buy out the safari ($1200) to go. We bought it out and just the 5 of us went. I have some pics and if the hurricane doesnt knock out the power I will post a few. By the way, it was great. I had a giraffe almost lick my 4 year old son.....they were that close!!!
