What is there about the AKL that I might not Like? Most people seem to love this hotel. Is there anyone who doesn't like the AKL? Why?

Look through past threads. Here are some of the negatives that people have

- location is a bit out of the way
- transportation takes a little longer to go to some parks

Over the past three months we spent four night in the AKL concierge and two nights in the Poly concierge. We really liked the setting, experience, resturuants, concierge services, view, everything at the AKL more than the Poly.

The poly was great, but AKL was really supurb.

I enjoyed my 3 night stay at AKL. It was at the end of my vacation, and I had no problem with transportation as I was relaxing after a whirlwind tour of the parks when I was staying at POR. I only had one tour left to do, which was at AK, and I happened to be the only one on the bus at 7:15. Yes, I was very early as we went direct to the park.

The most negative posts seem to be the transportatio, as AKL is so far out, and the food. Both resturants serve African food, but I do like Boma. I was surprised I would like it as I'm a potatoe and beef person. They do have Mara's which is okay for what I call fast food. It is American stuff like hamburgers and pizza.

Just to have a view of the animals is worth the stay. I like to walk around the grounds, but you can't at AKL. To me that's a negative.

we stayed at the AKL in Nov. for 16 days and it was wonderful!!!! I know peoplle say it's to out of the way but I don't think so. We never waited more than 5 minutes for a bus the whole trip. IAnd I didn't feel that it took any longer getting to and from the parks than any other resort. AS for the food BOMA is FANTASTIC. I am a really picky eater and didn't think I would like it but I loved it we actually ate there5 times during our stay. I wouldn't complain about anything except maybe that I had to come home!
Why dwell on the little things. I mean if all you can remember about your vacation is that you waited to long for a bus then why go on a vacation.

There are so many great WDW resorts with their unique advantages that it's hard to pick a favorite, but after staying at AKL, it's hard for me to pick another resort for a trip. The only disadvantage for me, comparing it to Beach Club (my old favorite), is not being able to just walk into the World Showcase in the evenings, etc.

Advantages:
Stunning architecture - lobby will blow you away!
Animals - Duh!
Pool is beautiful and relaxing.
Whole resort is relaxing, and being 40-something , this really appeals to me after a day in the parks.

My kids (12, 14, 15) picked AKL for our trip last summer, given their choice of resorts. I'm also taking my sister there for her first trip to WDW (in 2 weeks!), because I knew she would love it.

We used to stay at Poly con. Last Nov. my dd and I stayed at Savannah view in AKL due to no other room was avaiable at any resort for our lenght of stay,"a last minute decision" we were very happily surprised. The resort is much more private and secure in order to protect the animals; There is much less smoking, no oder, we never had to wait more than 5 minutes for buses and this was with a completeley booked disney world. The food is great but a little different but it goes with the theme. We are going back to show this wonderful resort to my dh this Nov.

Hi there... - I spent 9 nights at AKL and there is not alot of negative - it is a wonderful resort.

I guess if I had to say something - it would be that some rooms are miles from the lobby and a really long walk - a beautiful walk mind you - as there are windows to look at between the sections - but for someone with small, tired children after a day at the parks - this might not be a good thing.

The only other thing I can think of is that there are no straws or lids (choking hazard to animals) so whenever you order a drink - even soda.. no straw, no lid... my daughter complained about this as she was always spilling her drink when she walked with it... because it did not have a lid.

Transportation was great, restaurants were great, pool is great, hot tubs great, rooms - nice, lobby gorgeous.. service very good.
