I am such a VAKL/DVC newbie the ink is barely dry on the contract but May 16th is coming and I can play with my points... but what to do? I am a March 2007 owner. I know I won't travel back until at least next January, do I bank? How far out can you can I make a reservation? Oh my... where can I get my mind wrapped around all of this?

If you're wanting a reservation for January '08 and you're an AKV owner, you can make those reservations on May 16th!

We are March AKV owners too. If you are planning to travel in January, do NOT bank your points now, because January is still in your March '07 use year. You can make that January reservation on May 16. I'll be making my March '07 reservation on May 16 with my banked '07 points AND my March '08 points.

The only problem with us booking a January ressie is that if we don't go, the points may have to be used before March begins in 2008. If you cancel before they become holding points (that happens if you cancel 30 or under days out), you are still within the 25 % banking deadline, which is December 31. You can cancel earlier in the year, and be able to bank more, but be very sure that you're going if you book a January/February trip. We go offsite for our January/February Florida trips. In '08, we've decided on a January cruise. Not everyone takes that extreme stand.
