We have stayed in WL and my family loved it and wants to go back again. I would like to try the AKL, but am wondering if it is worth the extra $. We did standard view at WL...didn't care about the view because we weren't going to be in the room much during the day. Seems like it would be a shame though to stay at AKL and not have savanah view. The rates for standard view are the same for both, but rate for savanah view is considerably higher.

Has anyone stayed at AKL and just had standard view? How do AKL and WL compare? Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

In my opinion the whole point of paying to stay at the AKL is to have a room with a balcony where you can sit and watch the animals but there are loads of people who have had a standard room at AKL who loved it. The room decore is awesome and the whole resort is wonderful. I have stayed at WL too but not in a standard room. The standard rooms at AKL mostly look out over the front of the hotel where the bus stop and valet parking are. Some of the lower rooms are behind vegitation and some of the higher rooms look over toward Highway 192 where you can see a Days in sign and other lighted signs. If you think you will be really busy with the parks and not spend much time in the room you maybe alright in a Standard room at AKL. When you want to see the animals you can walk over to one of the many lookouts.

We were in the exact same boat last year. We had stayed at WL 3 times in a row...we LOVED it. In 1/03 I wanted to do something different DH would not hear of it and I talked him into splitting a stay between WL/AKL.....WE LOVED AKL! I didn't want to leave. In fact we are staying at AKL for 7 nites in 10/03.

Speaking as someone whose fav was WL...yes you will love AKL..the styling of the resort is very similar. We did have a savannah view so I can't say about the standard room. BUT I will say it wasn't just the room that won us over...it was the entire experience...from the staff, resturants, grounds, transportation, atmosphere...and of course the view from the room...

You can always split a stay if you aren't sure! But I'd say go for AKL!!
