If the cost is the same, which would you choose between a standard room at Animal Kingdom Lodge and a standard room at Wilderness Lodge? WHY?

Also, how does the food court compare at AKL with Roaring Forks (over the counter) at WL? We have stayed at POR and CBR and like the variety of the food courts.

I have stayed at both.

I like WL better. Not for any particular reason, I just love the feel of the place. They are VERY similar, especailly the rooms. We called AKL--African Wilderness Lodge!;)

Most people seem not to agree, but I like Roaring Fork better than the food court at AKL. My kids are very picky eater, so they enjoy the things at WL more. WL has better desserts. they have cookies & cupcakes--Yummy!:D

At WL, you order your food & pay for it and then they call your number when it is ready.

At AKL, you order by having a CM write down your grill order, then you wait in line to pay for it. Then a CM looks for you to deliver your food.

The pools are very similar.

You will enjoy either place. They are both lovely!

Do you have kids? Let them help decide if they are old enough. My kids saw 2 or 3 pictures of AKL and that was that. They wanted to stay there. I had chosen BC because of it's location and SAB, but the kids absolutely want AKL. We are going to try it out in 8 weeks!!! :D

Thanks for all the input. We visited WL a couple of years ago to have dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe and took a good look around while there. I saw pictures of AKL in Southern Living magazine yesterday and thought to myself the same as Julesmom; it reminded me of WL. I made ressies about a month ago for WL and I'll stick with that for now. Getting the kids involved as suggested by sharoncity is a good idea; our trip is a surprise, but I reckon I can come up with a way to get their input.

That's very funny! But there is more than a grain of truth in it.

Both resorts have perfect theming, absolutely stunning. WL and AKL rooms are virtually identical. The resort layout is also similar, as well as the types of available restaurants, the pool, and transportation - with one important difference (if you have younger kids especially) - WL is close to the MK (by boat).

I personally think 'The Boma' is a fantastic restuarant, easily as good as any I've ever eaten in. It beats Whispering Canyon any way you look at it. I also enjoyed 'The Mara' (the 'quick' food place), but 'Roaring Forks' is pretty good also. 'The Jiko' and 'Artists Point' are both suberb.

So basically it boils down to - are you going to be visiting the MK more days than the other parks (nod to WL), or do you want to see exotic critters out your window (nod to AKL)?

If you plan to spend lots of time at MK-the commute is great by boat!

split your stay, that is what i plan to do on our Jan 2003 trip?
that way you can try them both out for yourselves.. Just a thought.
