AKL vs POR vs OKW

We would do the DDP regardless of what hotel we pick. We are traveling with another family (who is staying at OKW) with little ones who will enjoy character breakfasts, and we are going to piggyback on that Disney Magic.
Of the 3 I would choose AKL. it is lovely, and the bus service is good, IMO. If you want to spend time with your friends, OKW is nice, but that resort is incredible boring. It is also sprawling. I cannot imagine the teens liking it at all.

POR is nice, but I agree that for 600 the additional amenities a deluxe is worth the way to go.

Oh gosh - I had not even considered this! In the past, we were rope-drop experts. However, now that the two kiddos sleep in later and later ... the EEH might be our best plan. I was planning on Lightning Lanes (the one that works like the old FP+ system, not the one that is $400+). I haven't become accustomed to the new acronyms just yet.
We haven’t gone with our boys since MPLL started but when my mom and used it this past fall, it worked really well for getting the most done with rope dropping and booking early times. I think if I were going with my 2 “bed slugs” in the near future, I’m not sure how best MPLL would work for them if they met us, for example, after lunch. I think what I’d end up doing is making them get up for rope drop, have some morning MMLL times booked, eat lunch, back to resort for naps for those who need them, and then return to the parks in the late afternoon. That’s kinda what we did in the fall and those EEH really helped. We were definitely tired but the afternoon rest break definitely helped. Otherwise, I’m not sure how I’d make LL work for the boys who sleep in! Hawaii time/PST zones stink for going to WDW😂

FYI OKW has a fantastic pool slide! Not sure how much time will be spent at the pool, but it is fun.

Well, I finally made a decision yesterday and booked AKL. I'm still a bit nervous about the cost (buyer's remorse always strikes) but I'm sure that I'll jump head first into planning soon. Thanks to everyone who offered advice and personal experiences.

You made a great choice … highly doubt you will have buyers remorse at AKL .. much better chance you book a bounce back or buy a AKV contract! These are from our studio deck in November … Enjoy!

I'm crossing my fingers to get a great view - I booked standard resort, but looked at Touring Plans for the room views and a few are practically savannah rooms. Now I just need to figure out how to make a room request of a specific room. The requests I've made in the past were always general, like "ground floor" or "close to transportation."

We booked a standard view at AKL years ago and ended up with a great pool view room. We really liked the whole resort and I highly recommend breakfast at Boma.

Just came back from AKL Jambo and Gran Destino. AKL was great. The room is dated and slated for a refurbishment. The main negative for me is that the studio only has 1 bed and the pull-out couch is not good. Also, the bathroom is so tiny. It was hard to get in the way the door and toilet are situated. I am a small person and I thought it was crazy!

The activities, pool and food choices will keep you busy if you have some rest days. The teens could do a bunch of stuff at the resort.

However, $600 is a big savings.

We've stayed at both OKW and AKL-Kidani in 2-bedroom suites. For Kidani we had the savanna view which is a necessity. OKW we had the canal view on several visits (once on the 3rd floor and once on the 1st). OKW only has a couple of buildings with elevators nearest to the community hall/lobby.

Out of those two, plus when I compare my stays at VGF (2-bedroom), Treehouses, YC, Pop, Cabins and SSR (2-bedroom), I would pick OKW each time. The boat transportation to DS is just marvelous. OKW is my favorite resort.

That being said, we utilize the full kitchens at the 2-bedroom villas, so my selection is biased.
