Savannah view is sadly, certainly out of the question. The upgrade price is so expensive.
But it seems like most people think overall AKL is still definitely worth it.
A slight shame the bus journeys will be longer, but I believe that deluxe resorts get more frequent busses than value & moderates. So there are two stops then?
We did not worry about not getting a Savannah view, our pool view was fantastic! There are plenty of public places to see the animals and the resort is lovely to explore.
We thought the bus service was excellent and only noticed a slight time increase going to MK. Other wise getting to the other parks was super easy.
There are just two stops, between Jambo House and Kidani House. It does not take much time at all to get through these stops. The best part is that this resort does not share with any other resort. Our bus trip to MK was longer at the YC as we shared buses with BC and sometimes Swan/Dolphin.
Another vote for AKL here. We have stayed at both and we like both. But I think there is a real step up in pretty much everything between a moderate and a delux resort.
We visit AKL every trip for a meal just to wander the resort. The atrium is my favorite of any atrium resort at Disney. I love the smell of the open air Boma restaurant. I love the large pit fireplace. I love talking to the African animal guides on the viewing paths. And ironically, it doesn't matter much to us if a bunch of animals are present or just a few (they are free roaming on the Savannah). Because of that, I wouldn't worry at all about missing Savannah view in your room. It's really not a big deal.
As for POFQ, it is my favorite moderate. We really loved it. But honestly, the moderates feel much less spectacular with the outdoor entrances to the rooms and the smaller scale architecture details. There is something about walking in through the Jambo House atrium after a day in the parks that just hits my relax button.

Several standard view rooms at AKL, those on the Kudu Trail, have great animal views. We stayed in a standard view room on the Kudu Trail this past April, and had giraffes, ostriches and more outside of our balcony every day, morning and evening. It was amazing.
