I'm trying to get into a 2 bedroom value for my AKL home for December 2021 for DD's fifth birthday. Seeing just how hard that is, I'm wondering:

1. Does a 1 bedroom work (value) comfortably for 3 adults and 1 kid? Grandparents would have the one bedroom and I'll bunk with the kid.

2. AKL or Poly? Other options? It's in December. I don't like the design of Contemporary but BLT is walking distance to MK. GF is probably too many points, but still an option. I think I either want a monorail resort or will stick with AKL. Thoughts?

I would not usually plan 18 months out, but I was hoping for a big 2 bedroom value and now I'm realizing that's near impossible to get...

ETA - assuming I can GET something else at 7 months out for December. If not, we'll probably stick with AKL in either a 1 or 2 bedroom.

If it's the first two weeks of December, even a 1BR Value will need to be walked most of the fall. And you're unlikely to get much of anything at 7 months.

If you strike out, you can get the standard AKV 1BR and have a sleeper chair and sofabed. It's not that many more points and the 5 year old can have her own little bed. 1 BR value will be difficult to obtain, it's a component of the 2BR. 1Br is easier than the 2 BR or studio, but still tough.
We love AKV at Christmas. It's beautiful. Stick with AKV 1BR. It think Poly studio would be too crowded.

As to four in a value 1BR, that can be done with some caveats: (a) the kitchen area is rather tight and four can be a crowd in that area; (b) the master bath in Jambo 1BRs has a combined whirlpool-type tub and shower, and it can be a problem if anyone has any knee or hip issues (such as grandparents can often have) because the step-over one must take to get into the tub is very high and wide; that is an issue for all master bathrooms at Jambo in the 1BRs and 2BRs.

Whether you can get the value 1BR is an issue; you should assumne not at 7-months out and for at least first two weeks of Dec they can disappear very quickly at 11-months out.The AKL standard 1BR is an option, although those at Jambo also have that high stepover and all standards can be an issue getting them in Dec at 7-months out. Nevertheless, at Jambo more than half the standards actually have savanna view so you have a chance of getting it (make request for room on Kudo Trail side of Jambo). There are some standards at Kidani that also have savanna view (request room near Pumba elevator). Those 1BRs at Kidani are huge in comparison to Jambo, particularly in comparison to a value, and have two bathrooms (and master bath has separate tup and shower).

Poly has no 1BRs and thus you would get a studio with all sleeping in the same room and lack the washer/dryer. BLT has excellent 1BRs but still expensive, including because standards can disappear fairly quickly at 11-months out and thus lake view may be your only option.

Y’all talk to me about the high step thing.

Grandpa is disabled and can’t do a high step. Standard steps outside take a bit of effort. Is there a different shower in a 1 bedroom for him to use?

I really think DD would like AKL over BLT, even though I like the BLT access.

As I recall, it’s not a “step.”

Imagine an ordinary bathtub/shower combo. You have to lift each leg over the edge of the tub to get in. Now imagine that the edge of the tub is wider than normal. And imagine that the tub is taller than normal. Thus lifting each of your legs to get into the tub/shower is more of a challenge than it is to get into a normal tub.

I’m 60 and not disabled but that wide step over made me nervous. Best Aunt is right, it’s not really a step but a wide area (maybe 8-9 inches in front of the tub that you could sit on. You have to step over it to get in or sit on the ledge and swing your feet around to get in. I’d go with the Kidani room given the choice, maybe even a HK room. Standard or SV 1 BR at Kidani has a separate walk-in shower off the bedroom. I’m not sure about Jambo.

I bet they have an HC access room with a roll in shower with no step. You can likely request via phone after you make reservation. I know Boulder villas has such, as I see them for studios.

if you can't get the value 1/2 bedroom then you may consider Kidani 1br since it has two bathrooms.

eta: I have 2 value studios booked for March-so it is possible with a little stalking and waitlists.

The more I look the more I just want a 2 bedroom if I can make it work. We all are used to traveling In close quarters, but for her fifth birthday it would be nice to spread out.

Now, Jambo or Kidani? It seems Kidani has better rooms but no QS. I’m leaning towards a Jambo lockoff with accessible walkin shower. The points are so low that time of year I can make five nights work even in a Standard.

Kidani 2 bedroom dedicated. You get 2 queens, 1 king, and one sofa bed. So you and your child can each have your own bed in the same bedroom, no need to cramp! :D

Plus a 3rd bathroom!

There is a HA Value but it has the same challenge of any Value - availability. There is only one, and if it is already booked for your dates, no go.

If I decide to shoot for a Jambo 2 bed, standard, Handicap accessible with walk-in shower .... it’s a different booking category. Trip is in December 2021. When do I need to be on the lookout for walking?

I don’t want to walk something for months on end, but I don’t want to miss out on a room either. I’m keeping an eye out on values but I have fast realized they are near impossible to even walk, and I want to have a plan B.
