I was wondering if it is still standard practace at the AKL to Upgrade customers in standard rooms if the hotel is not to capacity. I had heard this once before. I have a resie for Dec 16-18 and it is standard view. Should I ask at check in if there are any savannah rooms available? Did they stop upgrading? I'll pay the difference if I have to but would love to get the upgrade. Not being cheap just cost concience.

Hi - I just returned from the AKL (had a wonderful 8 day stay from Sept 10-17 - more details to be posted later in a trip report).

Anyway - there were notes in the computer that it was our anniversary and we were hoping for an upgrade to Savanah since we booked standard - I was prepared to ask for the upgrade.

But, as soon as we checked in and gave our name and it was pulled up on the computer - the lady said (almost immedately) - we have upgraded you to a savanah room!

We were thrilled.

I do not think it is automatic but I think they do it most of the time depending on how full the resort is - when we were there in Sept it was empty - December is probably a much busier time though...

Good luck!

We stayed at AKL in July and while we booked a savannah view at check in the CM immediately stated they had upgraded us to a deluxe savannah view room.

We also recieved an upgrade from Savannah to Deluxe Savannah upon check in last April and it was pretty busy!! Good luck.

Oh I would love an upgrade, we're goin from 10/2 -10/7! It's noted on our reservation that it's our anniversary on 10/4 and dd's 2nd birthday on 10/5.. If we don't get it that's OK too - we're still in disney!!!!! :cool1:

I was just wondering for those of you who have received an upgrade, did you check in early or late? I am wondering if you check in earlier in the day if you have a better chance of getting an uppgrade. We are staying Savannah view room the last 2 nights of our stay next month for our 2nd anniversary. Thank you for any help!

We checked into the AKL around 1:30pm on 8/24/05 and were upgraded to Savannah view (paid for standard). We didn't even have to ask for it. It made me feel better about paying rack rate w/ the "free" dining!!

We were upgraded from standard to savannah without asking, and we were there on a postcard rate of $139.00.

Sure wish I could get that deal again...

I stayed here in 2003 and we didn't get upgraded. It honestly didn't affect one thing either. There are so many place to view animals here. The CM did say that he wanted to upgrade us(we were there celebrating our engagement)but DH needed smoking and he had just given away thier last smoking upgrade.(You know it is real love when you give up a savannah upgrade for a smoking DH2B) He did arrange for magic things to happen at AP and with mousekeeping instead which was awesome. We didn't check in until 5:30 so I think time may have something to do with it. Good luck but you'll love it either way. Have a great celebration.

I just got back from my honeymoon there. All over our reservation there were notes that it was our honeymoon, yet no one said anything to us at AKL even when we had our ears on. We had a Savanah room, which was nice...no upgrades...requested a king bed, got a room with two doubles. The hallways were freezing cold...10 degree difference from the room. We had our room temp set at 70 and everytime we walked out to the hallway it was freezing. Mentioned it to the front desk and they looked at me like I was stupid...but then again, I wasn't wearing long sleeves and long pants like they were.

During our stay, I had become pretty sick and needed a thermometer to check my temp. I called the front desk and they said that I could buy one in the gift shop and they would deliver it to my room. I get transferred and the guy in the gift shop says they absolutely will not deliver and I had to go get it for myself...in the freezing hallway no less.

Now outside of the AKL, the experience was top notch. I just won't stay here again after being treated so poorly...especially with how much you pay for a room there.

Now, I wasn't expecting upgrades or anything for that matter...I was just expecting some decent service at a deluxe resort.
