AKL Upgrades

I have seen many people post to the fact that AKL provides free upgrades from time to time. This is upon checkin. My question is would they upgrade you from a Standard room to a Savannah room, or do they just upgrade you 1 level, say a Standard room to a Pool view room? Anybody have any insight on this?

Im not sure but when I originally resevered mine online, it booked me a deluxe water or pool view. I emailed them asking to change to a Standard room with savannah view...the room itself was a little cheaper, however, they charged me a $50 change fee...with the fee I ended up paying about $16 more.

Hopefully it will be worth it and we'll see some animals from our room.

we've been upgraded from a standard view room to savannah room view three times. Have never gotten a pool room as an upgrade

People have posted being upgraded to pool view, Savannah view and a few (unlucky) people have had to stay in the view they reserved. A few people actually posted refusing an upgrade from pool to Savannah view. They wanted to be closer to the pool and food.

Unless the hotel has very high occupancy many guests get upgraded BUT if a standard view will ruin your vacation then you might want to reserve, and pay for, a different view.

I've been upgraded twice from standard to pool view and once to savannah (day before Hurricane Charley hit!). Don't think there's any rhyme or reason to it!

But I'd echo Lewisc - if it would ruin your vacation to be "stuck" in a standard view, book what you'll be happy with. Personally, I'd be happy anywhere at AKL so long as it had a shower and a bed!

I've stayed at AKL three times with a savannah view room booked and all three times I have been upgraded to a deluxe savannah view.

To the poster wondering if you'll see animals, don't worry - the chances are overwhelmingly in your favor. Have a wonderful visit.

We've stayed at AKL every year since it opened at least twice and I promise I'm not exaggerating, but we have been upgraded every time. We never go during the busy seasons so I assume that they have the rooms available to upgrage at those times. As a matter of fact, we usually book standard rooms but have yet to stay in one. We always joke with the front desk CM's, asking "Do you even have parking lot view standard rooms?" We've been upgraded all of the following: standard room to savannah, savannah to deluxe savannah, or pool view to deluxe pool view. Have fun!!!

We're usually there before posted check in. I know Disney says you can't check in until after 3 pm, but we typically check in between 9-11 am without a problem. I really can't imagine you'd have a problem no matter what time you check in during a value season.

When we stayed at AKL in July 03 we had booked a standard room for 9 nights but when we checked in we were told we were upgraded to a Savannah room. Believe it or not I asked if we could have a pool view instead and they were happy to do it.

We were upgraded from standard to savannah this past fall. The resort seemed pretty busy, too. Judging by the lights in the rooms, some poor folks did end up in standard parking lot views. Of course, they may have requested this in order to be closer to the buses, pool, etc. There are so many places to see the animals, and we spend so little time in our room; that I have a hard time justifying the extra expense to guarantee a savannah view.

What about regular season. Late October lets say.

I stayed at AKL three times, and was upgraded twice. 1st year I booked a standard view, and got a room with a view of the parking lot with an extra tiny balcony, very close to the lobby. 2nd year I booked standard, and was upgraded to a regular 5th floor pool view! Wonderful room! Third trip (two weeks ago) I booked a normal pool view room, was was upgraded to a deluxe pool view room! We were told the deluxe pool view room is bigger than the normal ones, though our's still only had two queens and was only for 4 people. We had a phone next to the toilet in the bathroom - how convienent!

So we had upgrades two out of three times. I think I like the pool view better than savannah, as I like views with people and stuff going on, and it's similiar to the WL courtyard view.

We've been upgraded from Standard to Savannah view every time, usually July or August.
