What is the standard room at the AKL? Is the view good or not so good and do you have to go far to see the animals? What building and room would you suggest? Sorry for all the questions!

The standard rooms overlook the entrance of the hotel (the outside). I don't know if you can see the parking lot from the rooms, but they do face the parking lot. You will have to walk through the main lobby to find a viewing spot of the animals. But they're all over the resort, so I wouldn't worry too much. The AKL is all one building and it is in a horseshoe shape. We stayed there in December and had a Savannah view, but I don't remember the "trail" we were on. Each hallway is called a trail. I want to say we were on Kudu trail, but I really don't remember. If having a view of the animals is that important to you, I suggest you make the reservation for a savannah view room. If you don't think you'll mind walking to a viewing spot (and it wouldn't be a long walk) then stick with your standard view.

Hope this helps a little.

Hi Joyfulsnuff,

The standard view room faces the parking lot area. There are trails. It is also possible to be the walkway that leads to the bus stop area. To answer your question directly the view is not good.

The animals can be seen from many places throughout the resort and a big park of the fun of the resort is exploring and finding animal viewing areas. There are three main outdoor viewing areas that are very conveinent.

Do not apoligise for the questions. You need information to make an informed decision.

My husband and I spent 15 days at the AKL in 2001 in pool view rooms and enjoyed our stays very much but we did not want to run the risk of being put in a standard view room near the bus stop so we are going to be staying at the Dolphin for our upcoming Aug trip even though the standard view at the AKL is cheaper.
