We will be staying at the AKL lodge for the first time ever in May. We have a Savannah view room booked and I would like to make a room request for the best possible experience there. I know that can mean different things for different people, and I would mainly like a great view of the animals. I would be interested in hearing opinions from others as to what trail, floor (higher or lower), etc. you really enjoyed during your stay. There will be two adults and no children in the room. Thanks!

If you like zebras, then Arusha Savannah is a must.

This is one resort where the lower floors (I feel) have a better view. We've always wanted to stay on the second floor, but have been on the third.

It's tough to call a favorite view based on the animals (other than types on the savannah) because the animals have a migratory 'pattern' and move all about. I could tell you that I loved our rooms because the zebras ate out there every morning, and you could find that they were always on the other side.

Third floor is great as you're right on the main level with the lobby, activities, bus, and gift shop, first floor is great (pool view only) as you can walk out and head straight to the restaurants from your patio, second floor is great as you've got a close up view of the savannahs... etc.

We were there about 10 days ago and we had a 2nd floor room on the Arusha Savanna. We loved it. There were always tons of animals when we were out on the balcony.

We were originally put on the sunset savanna and I was not impressed with that view (3rd floor, a roof below us and then a pergola beyond the roof, so animals were far away).

I will definately request Arusha Savanna view on our next trip there.

What times of day do you see the most animals? I am wondering if any of the animals are moved to indoor quarters (for night) in the winter months. If so, what time are they moved in and out? I'm worried that the animals will always be around when we are at the parks!

The animals on the savannah seemed to be most active in the mornings (around 7:30-9:30?) and evenings (maybe 5:00-8:00?), when their food was put out.

Or maybe those were just the times we tended to be around to notice them the most.

Really, we saw animals at all times of the day. But feeding time really brought them out!

We were on the 5th floor looking at Arusha Savannah. It seems like ANY of the savannah view rooms would be good for viewing the animals, they were coming and going all the time!

Arusha with a room on the 2nd floor. I know some like the higher rooms but I loved being as close to the animals as possible. I love to tell those that have never stayed there that we were so close, we could hear the animals chewing!!!!

The AKL is a GREAT resort. Try Boma and have a zebra dome, the avacado-grapefruit salas and the winter squash soup for me!

Enjoy!
