AKL - Savannah or Pool View?

We've had a pool view room booked at AKL for the past few months ... staying January 1 - 7. When the latest code came out, it wouldn't apply to pool view rooms, but it would to savannah ... which made it the same amount of money. So I switched our reservation to a savannah room, but now I've been reading about horrible views you can get (people pens) and looong treks to your room. With our luck we'd end up with one of those rooms. At least with a pool room we'd be assured of a pretty view, and convenience to the lobby. Did I make a mistake, and should I switch back ... help!

I have found that if you get a room that isn't quite to your liking, you should go down to the front desk and ask nicely if they could put you somewhere else. They can recheck the room inventory.

Thanks, but we'll be checking in rather early (before 9:00 a.m.) and know our room won't be ready, so will be heading to a park. I wonder if our room will be assigned, though, when we do check in, so we can at least specify which area we'd like. Or would we have to wait and find out later when our room is finally ready. ???

The rooms are all preset a few days in advance, but I don't know if Disney will actually tell you which room is yours until the prior family is out of the room. They don't want people hunting down there new room, knocking on the door like:

"HEY, ARE YOU ALMOST DONE IN THERE? LETS GO, THE MAGIC'S OVER FOR YOU!"

We always ask for our preferences when we check in. (Nicely, of course) "Is it possible that you will have a room available x,y, and z?" Make sure you tell them that you are willing to wait for the room. Most CM's have been willing to go through the inventory to find the perfect room, just know that your check in can be a little longer while they figure out where to put you. They should be able to tell you which area you will be in, just not the specific room if it's not ready.

One area I suggest is in the middle of the Zebra Trail, overlooking the Arusha (main) Savannah. It's not too far from the lobby, and the elevator there takes you almost directly to the Pool. We have stayed at the first room of the 2516-5531 (lower floor) block on the map and it was perfect.

Thanks ... that sounds perfect to me, too. I'll make sure and ask nicely if we could get assigned there. Don't know what our chances will be though; it'll be New Years Day and the place will be pretty full. Wish me luck!
