Has anyone stayed at AKL in a Savanna view room? Dh is willing to spend the money to stay in a Savanna view for ds second birthday trip, but honestly, are the animals really that close to make the price worth it? Personally, I'd rather pay the same price and go concierge, but if the Savanna view is as good as it looks, then I would love to book that.

Any opinions?

DD and I stayed Sav. view last March and it was great, we were on the 2nd floor and the animals were right outside the room. We think the extra is worth it, however this April have pool view booked, that's all that was left at AP rate.

Maybe I misunderstood your post, but sav. view is much cheaper than concierge - at least $150 difference/night.

Have fun planning your trip!!!

We've done it twice, and are doing it again a week from today :)

I LOVE watching the animals from the balcony...and hearing the ankole cattle braying at night is very unique.

We had a savannah view room on the 3rd floor, and I felt the animals were very close. We could hear them eating! The concierge floors are actually higher up (6th floor, I believe) than the regular savannah view rooms, so technically, we were closer to the animals.

We had 2 adults and 2 kids in our room, lots of 'stuff', and we did not feel crowded at all.

The most wonderful resort in the 'world', imho.

I'm gonna be a wet towel here. Sorry. ;)

DH and I stayed in a Savannah-view room this past November. There was a humongously long walk to our room, the housekeeping was AWFUL, the CMs were rude, and no matter when we looked out our window, there were no animals to be seen. (We looked several times a day, at different times.) I think we saw one giraffe ONCE through the lobby.

Also, the buses ran SO slowly. AKL is really far away from everything except AK.

However - Jiko is just an INCREDIBLE restaurant.

We won't be staying there again, though.

One point, though, the animals are not on the savannah round the clock. They come out to eat fairly early in the AM. Plus you might see them wandering around during the day. But they do go back into the shelter at night and sometimes during the day as well.

Also, not all the savannahs have the same animals on them.

We've stayed in Savannah before and thought it was ok. We actually prefer the pool view. The Savannahs are very natural (in Florida that means scrubby) and not as pretty as the pool. This is our favorite Disney resort and we are staying in a pool view room in June for our son's 4th birthday; its a tradition in our family.

Just bear in mind that the animals can get close, but you are at least one floor above them and there is a service drive that runs between the building and the grazing area. There is a set of small wire fences that keeps the animals a certain distance from the service drive. I guess that helps to keep the animals far enough away that they can't reach items that might get dropped and keeps them from staying up under the balconies when it rains or to get out of the sun.
