AKL rooms and beds

Hello,

I hope this isn't a silly question, but we're booked in at AKL next March. There are 16 of us going from 3 families plus Grandma, and we've had to book 4 rooms with bunk beds. That means we will have to split the families up.

Do you know if a 'bunk bed' room is really big enough for more than 4?

Also is it worth paying to be upgraded to a Savanna room - I've had mixed reports.

We had a deluxe Savannah view room at the AKL. We had one queen, bunk beds and a daybed, which converted into a twin bed.

If there are two sleeping in the queen you could comfortably have 5 in this room...but for the fighting over the top bunk bed.

For us, I wouldn't bother with a savannah view again. We don't sit on the balcony that much and what else is there to do at AKL but look at animals...there are lookouts all over and arusha rock.

We feel cramped with three of us in an AKL room, can't imagine five!

We are the opposite fo the above poster, and spend hours on the balcony's watching the animals. I wouldn't stay at the AKL if I wasn't in a savannah view room. That's part of what make sit so special

The AKL rooms that accommodate more than 4 are the deluxe rooms, which include a day bed in addition to a queen and the bunks. The deluxe rooms are technically big enough to accommodate more than 4, but I imagine it might be a bit of a tight squeeze to move around if there were 5 adults. The first time we stayed at AKL we booked a savannah room and loved it; our only complaint was that it was a little small for the 4 of us (DH and DDs, 10 and 12, and myself). The last time we went, we booked a deluxe pool view (concierge) and were very happy with the extra space. I have to admit, I did miss sitting on the balcony watching the animals, but the pool view room was much more convenient to many of the resort amenities we use. If we return, I think we'll go for the savannnah view room on zebra trail, which would allow us to view the animals and be close to the pool, Mara, laundry room, elevators, etc.

My family of 5 just stayed at AKL in a deluxe savannah room. It was small for us...(DS15, DS12 and DS6). I think the regular rooms don't include the day bed. Not much space for your luggage and stuff but we made it work...just took some strategic planning.

You'll have a great time @AKL...we really loved that place!!!!

Not all deluxe rooms have the daybed. We were in one with a chair and ottoman in it's place. It made for a little extra space.

Just got back from the AKL.With so may people and paying so much to split up, have you asked about seeing how much a suite would be and how many people could could stay in one.Tina

My family of 5 stayed in a bunk bed room back in September. (DS8, DS6, DD1 + my husband and me). Our daughter was in a crib. It was kind of crowded but we weren't in the room that much. Sometimes we would tell the kids to stay on their own beds to watch TV or play with their souvenirs; otherwise, it would get a little crazy. We're planning a trip to AKL for February and also next September. We'll be requesting the same room both times. We didn't really mind being a little cramped.

As far as the savannah view room, we were upgraded from a standard view. We loved the view of the animals, but I'm not sure if I would pay for a savannah view unless I was going to spend a lot of time in the room. I did miss seeing the animals, though, when we left. We booked a standard view for February and will do the same for next September. Maybe, we'll be upgraded again. We're going to take a chance on that.
