We are in the process of planning a trip for June. We are trying to decide on which resort to spend 3 days at, and we are considering AKL. The only thing is that we have a pretty picky 4 year old DS, and we are wondering if there is a snack bar or a restaurant that serves "regular" food (Boma and Jiko do not have regular enough food for him!!).

Hi there...

I don't know about Jiko... but Boma had lots of regular food

- spaghetti
- mac & cheese
- chicken fingers
- fries
- garlic bread, plain bread
- lots of fruit & desserts
- plain rice

And even their 'african' dishes were not that weird or highly spiced..

I think you coiuld scrape together a good meal for the picky eaters in the family.

Mara (the food court) at AKL - has lots of normal things too, sandwiches, soups, burgers etc...

Have fun planning your trip

I highly recommend the AKL for a unique & memorable experience! Try to make time to take a guided (free) hotel tour. You will be amazed how much more you will appreciate the art collection & the decor if you learn a little about them. Take a moment to appreciate the smells (spice & wood) & the magical atmosphere at the AKL.

For a kid that age, the childrens menu has nothing but regular food, in fact, he will probably get tired of eating the same thing over and over again.

Go to AKL and enjoy, it is wonderful. Your son will have plenty to eat.

I have two very very picky eaters and they really like BOMA a lot! There are plenty of chicken fingers and mac and cheese. They also have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, if you look carefully at the bread section.

My kids loved the atmosphere and the mac and cheese must be truly outstanding since they ate huge helpings every time we were there. (We've been to BOMA three times now.)

They also loved all the desserts. My DD (9) loves the zebra domes, and ate 3 in one sitting once. (That's a miracle because she just doesn't eat most of the time.) Be careful with these though. We found out they have just a little chocolate liquor in them.

The counter srevice restuarant also serves all the usual kid fare, including cinnamon rolls in the morning.

We loved AKL and found plenty to eat while we were there. I think you will love it too.

Picky DD7 loved the food at Mara - hotdogs, pizza and fries.
Just be aware portions are large, so you can easily split between kids.

My son is SUCH a picky eater! But, I really wanted to try Boma's. He will not eat mac and cheese, hamburgers, anything like that. But, since I really wanted to try it, I paid anyway. He ate french fries and then told the waiter they should really have hot dogs or pepperoni pizza. I was ready to crawl under the table. The waiter laughed and said he was sorry. About ten minutes later, he was back at the table with a not dog and an individual sized pepperoni pizza.

TMy son would not even eat the peanut butter and jelly because he said it didn't "look" right.

REALLY made the trip a little more magical!!

Thank you all for the great advice. We have been to Boma several times, and have looked around at the resort, but I totally forgot that there is a little food court there.

Another question for all of you AKLers- did you feel that the resort is too isolated from the rest of the property?

Ann

No - IMHO I don't think the AKL is isolated. I believe that is part of its charm. Disney Transportation is great. We also used our own car, and that made the to/from fast and easy as well.

You get express bus service to the parks.. the only one I noticed stopping was the one to MGM stopped at Blizard Beach for a minute.

Other resort buses make multiple stops at other properties or bus stops (ie) stops within Caribbean resort...

We found the transportation frequent and reliable and FAST!

I don't have an issue with Disney transportation, but it seems that my DH does when it comes to AKL. Thanks again for all the info!!

Ann

I totally agree that the AKL dedicated busses are fantastic. Frequent & fast. I think the remoteness of the resort sets the mood & really doesn't pose a problem at all. Try to imagine the AKL on the monorail? No way, it would seem out of place & phony. :smooth:
