well, time to start planning the trip since we've been home for two whole weeks and I'm starting to have withdrawl! Thinking about akl for next trip. We loved our courtyard view in 2001 at wl so I thought we might like a pool view at akl. Are the pool views less expensive than the savahanna views? can discount codes be used for pool views? Can you see any animals in the distance from a pool view? Thanks for the help!
Oh yea - anyone have any ideas how I can talk my dh into going back again this year?:D

Pool view rooms are very nice at the AKL. Less expensive than the Savannah views. I would think you could use a code for pool view, it never hurts to try! I saw a few distant glimpses of animals from the pool view, but nothing like the Savannah view. If price is a big consideration, you can take a standard view, (parking lot) and use the viewing area off the lobby. I just love the atmosphere at the AKL, my favorite deluxe resort. I love all 3 of their restaurants also.
If you are a FL resident or an AP holder, I believe there is a $109 rate right now for standard view. You can check www.mousesavers.com for codes. Enjoy!

Hey, a nice low rate might inspire your DH to go back, that & a promise of a romantic dinner at Jico! ;)

Send the kids to Gramma's for the night and plan and nice candlelit romantic dinner - a little wine - soft music - get the picture lol

How do you think I talked my dh into buying into DVC - lol

thanks for the info! I think if anything will get him back it would be AKL - he really wants to try that one, but insists we skip a year:( I think I'll wait till summer and then approach him with the attitude of "well if you really don't want to go, ok but I think i'll go :) - unless I could talk him into Beaches at the Turks (no offense Disney, but the carribean would be awful nice after a chilly trip to disney in december  )

When you do convince him to go again, work on also convincing him that annual passes are a better deal. Then when you're ready to go the time after that, it'll be simple! "But DH, our tickets are already paid for" :)

My personal feeling about pool views in general is that they are noisy & lacking in privacy. Not a complaint, just my feelings :) If those things don't bother you, or if you are one of the people out at the pool at midnight, go for it! I believe the 2nd floor is ground level. You have to go down 1 flight from the lobby, but it is very easy to get to Mara & the pool from the 2nd floor. Not much of a view though, because of the plantings.

It's a lovely resort & I would stay there again, even after 2 visits in 2002. We had savannah view the first time, and standard the first. They put me in a second floor room, close to the elevators & the laundry. I was facing the pool area, but had no real view. I'm not sure if this was considered pool view or standard view.

PS The Turks & Caicos might still be a bit chilly in Winter too. It's not that far south. But it sure does look nice!

All you really need to do is ask him what vacation plans he'd like for this year? This will put his wheels in motion--if he's like mine, he won't be able to think of anything as fun as a trip to WDW. If the mere question isn't enough--put him in charge of planning an alternative vacation. ;) (Provided you know he won't want to take you up on the offer.)

We tried, at my husband's insistence, to "skip" years thereby visiting only every other year--it lasted one time--he was not at all pleased with the alternative vacation arrangements despite the more frugal nature of the vacation. We had a good time during our "interim" vacation year--it "just wasn't Disney", according to my husband. We're back on the yearly track--or at least have been since we did our "skip" year in 1998. :D

We have stayed in savannah view and pool view and my wife has requested pool view over savannah view for our next trip in April.

With so many viewing locations throughout the resort, it really isn't necessary to have a savannah view room. We enjoyed it during breakfast so the kids could take theirs out on the balcony and look at the animals and give us a little peace and quite while we ate, but beyond that, we really didn't use the balcony all that much. Most of our resort time was spent by the pool anyway.

You might request a third floor pool view or higher since the lush landscaping can block the view of the pool. But if you decide on the savannah view, ask for second floor. The tree tops on the savannah can block the view. (btw, we were on the second floor both views.)
