I will be staying at AKL for 2 nights during our vacation in July (July 11-18th..we are also staying 5 nights at BWV)....I am trying to figure out which trail and floor would be best for my family...there are many opinions on the boards but I am trying to pick the one best suited for us.....

Here is our family:
Me, wife and planner, 34
Husband, 35
2 sons, ages 8 and 3.

Both boys are thrilled about seeing the animals and actually our oldest was the one that picked the resort. We have already requested a Non-smoking, Savannah view room with the 2 bunk beds but are trying to figure out the trail and floor.

The little guy will probably still be in a stroller and we would like to be near the pool..........

Any thoughts? I will be faxing over the request the week before we leave...Thanks so much!

I would request anything overlooking the Arusha Savannah. It is the largest of the savannahs and has the zebra on it. We have stayed overlooking this savannah twice and it is really terrific.

One thing to remember, however...requests are not guaranteed. You can fax in a request for a specific trail or floor but you may not get it. Knowing that up front can head off any frustration you might feel when/if you don't get what you prefer.

Have a great trip.

Hi,

This is like one of those age old questions with no real answer...

I stayed on the Kudo trail overlooking the Arusha Savana and it was wonderful - animals below us all the time, ankole cattle, giraffes, zebra etc... and we were on the 5th floor.

Others have reported having the "best view" from the 3rd floor because you are closer to the animals... and have recommended other savannas...

I don't think I have heard anyone bitterly complain about their savanna view.

It can be a LONG walk to the rooms at the ends of the trails... not so bad if it is just the morning and night when you come and go.. but it would be a pain if you forgot something and just wanted to run back for a minute. Seriously it can be quite a hike.

For me the priority was a central location - on the main savanna, near the lobby, where you are close to the buses, pool and restaurants... I would have hated being way down at the ends - but some people say they love the quietness and savanna views from those areas.

Don't forget if you are really unhappy with your location - you can always ask politely to move to another room - they will accommodate you if they have rooms...

Good Luck!

We have stayed on the Zebra Trail three times. It is closest to the pool and Mara's. We have stayed on 2nd floor Savannah and I think that is probably best so that you are below the canapies of the trees so get a less obstructed view of the animals.

For our Spring break trip, I faxed a request for a non-smoking, Zebra Trail room with bunk beds and mentioned that we would be spending some relaxation time by the pool. We got a pool view (we actually prefer pool view to Savannah View) with bunk beds on the third floor. Great view for the pool.

BTW, there are only one set of bunk beds per room, and there are fewer bunk bed rooms with Savannah views than two queens with Savannah views so you may have to prioratize your request. Again, there is no guarantee that you will get your request, but I believe they really try to do as much as they can.
